Can't I find models for paid work?
Case in point; over the course of the last 2 months, I have contacted 3 different models to do a shoot in Maine this weekend. The job included all expenses, Sat night at one of the nicest old inns on the coast for her and her escort, $80/hour for 3 hours. All three proclaimed interest but then backed out.
Now, I know that they don't come away from a shoot with me with a whole bunch of images for their use. That's not the kind of shooting I do. I am after a single image as a result of my imagination. That's one of the reasons I pay my models. Basically, pay is the only tangible they get out of the shoot. Now the weekend is shot, I'm out a bunchof cash and I'm frustrated.
Is the pay too little? Do they want to do only glamour or nudes and feel that my work is too boring to spend the time with? I don't know. Anybody want to tell me?

It might be the money, most nude models get 100 an hr but you are paying expenses so it evens out. And they should know that paying jobs dont get them images. If youre ever in my area Id love to work with you!

My only thought -- your portfolio doesn't really reflect the work you're describing. So you have this ad with a description of one kind of work, and a portfolio that doesn't show anything remotely like it. . . .that's a red flag for anyone dealing with a photographer.

I think you have to get a couple examples of what you are trying to accomplish done, and then it will get easier.

One last thought -- this time of the year is always a little hectic for models. A lot of them are in school, and they're finishing up the year and they don't have time to think about modeling.

I think your pay is more than reasonable -- you just need to keep trying.

If I had the image already to show in my portfolio, I wouldn't need to shoot it again, would I? Each of the images I plan to shoot is (I hope) unique. I am not shooting nudes for this image, or glamour. It is a simple clothed shot but with artistic qualities.  The closest in my port would be "Moon Maiden" which is nude but not erotica. The pay is always listed as "negotiable".

Your "Moon Maiden" has a marketable concept. You just need to have a few more shots the models can see that parallel what you are asking them to pose for.

The pay is probably not the issue. However the way it is structured might be. If these are unexperienced models they might be more comfortable getting $30 an hour for 8 hours, even though the total is the same.

Is this a shot with all three models in one frame? I ask because one model at $75/hour for 8 hours might also be easier and less expensive to find.

You still have time to post a casting call. You will need to spell out the schedule and be ready to review portfolios as soon as you get interest, but it could get you (a) Model(s)

Only one model is required. In fact the shooting probably wouldn't take more than an hour, but I thought paying for 3 was fair. I also thought that the oportunity for them to play tourist in Boothbay Harbor for the rest of the weekend was an incentive. The shoot wuld have been right at sunrise and within an hour the light would not be good any more. Good idea about the casting call.
