I was walking through the magazine section of a store before work today and was shocked to see this magazine cover:

What's so odd you might ask? I'm in the very center of it. Yes, that's me, I posed for this painting by aviation/military artist Jim Deitz about 2 years ago. I'm not complaining at all, mind you, just shcoked that they focused on a relatively small portion of the overall print and put me dead center on the cover. (BTW, I'm the guy in the background with glasses, getting ready to get off the ground). The really funny thing is that I personally know the editor of WW2 magazine and I know he doesn't know that's me there!

I think this should be an honour...my husband is a painter and friend with James Diets and I greatly appreciate his work...I think you should be flattered smile

Oh, I am, trust me. I was a big fan of his work long before I ever got to work with the man. I'm actually in three of his paintings that I know of that were turned into prints.

The one I like the most is "we happy few." I'm the 29th Infantry Division solider to the right, holding a German FG-42 rifle and yucking it up with the medic. He painted me exactly as I look, which is really cool as often he paints people's faces other than how they actually appear:

And I'm in his book, "Portraits of Combat" at least three times...
