What is the best size for landscape photos? It seems no matter what size I post the thumbnails are always too small. This doesn't happen with my portrait images.

I would say that the problem is the aspect ratio.

This is a modeling site so the site resizes to give a constant width. If you have portrait shots they will all be about the same height after being sized for width.

With landscapes they will be considerably smaller in height when sized to the same width as a portait.

Check your settings. One thing that will do that is if your editor has a setting [and most have some kind of similar setting] of "constrain to height" or "constrain to width" and you are telling it to limit the thumb size to the wrong side/edge of the image.
