$500 To Represent Me?
I just want to ask if Im right in this situation... I major well known male model's mother runs a modeling agency in NYC that evidentally recently opened a office in Philadelphia. I contacted them through email about possible representation and was responded to with an email that went like this. Thank you for your response, we are inviting anyone that is interested in working with our company to our office on Sunday march 19th. If you are interested in being managed by our company you should come meet with us to go over details and fill out information. If you need a photo shoot, men: $450 (including hair, makeup, and wardrobe) women: $500 (including hair, makeup, and wardrobe) all photo shoots are done in NY. If you already have professional photos then the comp cards are $200. For actors headshots, men: $200 and women: $250 (including hair and makeup). If you have any questions or would like to schedule a time on the 19th please reply to this email and leave a phone number so we can have someone contact you. Thank you I responded saying that it seemed absurb to be represented by management that asks the model to shell out a substantial about of money. Im right....right Isnt seeking money from models a tell tale sign of a fraud... Mar 14 06 09:01 pm Link I donât mean to hijack this thread, but I really would like to know if itâs only the models that get these kinds of emails on here? Or was this not another email you got here on Model Mayhem? Mar 14 06 09:03 pm Link Looks to me like they're only charging you $500 if you don't have your own book already established. Mar 14 06 09:12 pm Link The key thing is that this is management, not an agency It is definitely not unheard of for management to charge you for photoshoots and what-not. Generally, people pay managers to build "books" for them to then take to agencies to get signed Mar 14 06 09:12 pm Link CrazyIsabelAurora wrote: But it should be noted that in order to get around NY's relatively tough agency laws, many "agencies" operate as "talent management companies". But, yea...I dont know the difference. Mar 14 06 09:14 pm Link It really doesn't sound too bad, but as always tread with caution. I didn't see anywhere that you had to do anything and you contacted them. Most people do not even have photos and sounds like they maybe weeding out the rift raft. If you have already you portfolio, start with that and see what they say, but remeber, you do need to invest in you career like a photographer had to buy a camera. Anyway, good luck, Mark Mar 14 06 09:14 pm Link |
