I think I"ve discovered why photographers tend to be thin and well built.  Primary lenses.

I did an almost 6 hour, 15 model shoot at a party (7 sins party, I was vanity) back in january.  Because of the lighting situation, I stuck with an 80mm fixed focal length f/1.4 lens and used my feet for zooms.    After 6 hours, almost 2000 photos and about 5 miles of wear and tear on my feet, I realized that photography is a damned good way to get exercise. smile

Just thought I'd share.   And yes, I lost almost five lbs that night.

I lose weight when I work, but then I gain it back by eating skinny photographers.

Try photographing 100 screaming 0-5 year old kids 2 different poses with props and two different backgrounds, oh and did I mention you have to make sure you take the money shot at your first two frames and have to finish all of them in 3 hours.... Not only will you loose weight, but your hair will fall off.  I did this for 2 years, I dunno how I did it and didn't loose much weight??? Beat that! LOL

Back in the good old days photographers were thin because of inhaling too much chemicals in the lab.

most professional photographers i know tend to have a gut.  i mean, i don't see any overly obese photographers for the most part, but skinny?  not quite.

Speak for yourselves.

I am mobbed wherever I go. I have to beat off models  with a stick.

Sexy beast!

And here I thought it was from inhaling too many chemicals off a mirror....

I'm happily far from thin, and don't want to be.

Yours too? Damn, I thought they just liked my cooking. Didn't know they were foraging everywhere.

Careful now...you might upset some of those models who feel they're the only one who does any work during a shoot...you know, the ones who say all we do is point a camera and press a button...

I shoot alot of weddings and am a very active photographer so i feel ya.  I probably burn 1000 calories at a wedding.  Luckily I was in the military until 2004 so at least I approach the job in great shape.

That being said, a 10-13 hour wedding day does remind me of basic training smile

skinny photographer right here, but i have nothing to chalk it up to rather than riding a bike everywhere and other impractical exercises.

I'm 5'2" and size 8, my boss is 5'9" and size 8!  She gets it from having 3 children and doing yoga.

We shoot mostly weddings and it's exhausting, for sure.  But if I relied on photography to stay in shape, I'd look like the marshmallow man.

5'6 and I wear women sizes 0-5.

Why? Not because of photography. Because of genetics/metabolism.

Not sure about skinny... I would think that many photographers have good legs, since a lot of time is spent standing or squatting. I've been known to lay down, balance on tree limbs and other things to get the photo desired.

I'm not rail thin, 190 lbs at 6 foot and short legs (32 inseam), hence long torso. I'd say not having a car and the resulting walking, biking, etc helps. And I'm not eating much meat or dairy, just managed to remove those. One thing that builds bulk is soda pop.

So for the photographers wondering why they aren't on the skinny pages - check out how many potato chips, pop drank, quantity of meat/dairy. You'll find a higher correlation on that more than the work of being a photographer.
