I've been a member for about a week, and I've got 3 possible shoots coming up. I also have about 5 other models who would have liked to work with me except for the large distance between us. Anyway, my question is, when a photographer contacts you to work with him and you're interested, do any of you fall into the habit of visualizing him as the ideal guy, then get disappointed when he's old, fat and bald, causing you to either not be inspired, or cancel the shoot entirely? I'm not old, fat, OR bald, and I'm a fairly handsome guy, but nobody's idea of "ideal". I was just wondering since, usually, a photographer's avatar will be a picture of a beautiful girl, since we're WAY too modest to include a picture of ourselves (yeah, right), so normally you wouldn't have any idea what the photographer looks like until you meet him. So, in a nutshell, if a photographer is good, and he's a nice guy and easy to talk to and work with, does it matter if he's not the handsomest guy in the world, or does it affect your decision to shoot with him? This is for TFP/TFCD shoots, not paid. I know most of you could care less what the person looks like if it's a paid shoot.

Please bear in mind I'm trying to figure out why certain definite shoots in the past didn't pan out, I'm not looking for ways to improve my ability to "score". As it says in my profile, I'm not looking for hookups. Any insight from the ladies here would be appreciated.

And no wisecracks from the guys. I've got a gun ;-)

uhh...who the hell cares what their photographer looks like? I generally assume that most photographers are old bald white men.

Yeah, most of them are, from my experience..
And I never date/sleep with photogs. If my relationship starts as professional with someone, it stays that way.

Who cares what the photographer looks like so long as what they produce is something the model wants to be associated w/.

I appreciate the replies so far. Just to remind you, I'm not looking for a way to turn a shoot into a relationship. I have no interest in that. I was just wondering if, sub-consciously, the photographers appearance is a deciding factor in whether to shoot with him or not. Obviously greasy, porn producer type sleazeballs don't count. And one more thing. Why is it ok to refer to "old bald WHITE men"? I didn't mention white in my description.

I'll bet a lot of you would go off the deep end if somebody said "I expect agents to be sleazy, do-ragged black guys" or "...smelly, shit skinned Muslims." Why the double standard?

I have a habit of visualizing photographers as old, bald and fat. I feel let down when they turn out to be young and studly.

Because old, fat, WHITE, bald guys haven't pitched a bitch about those being racist or anti-semetic comments..   No bitch, no reason to stop.. Kinda like saying all blondes are stupid..

Not a good example, blondes are too stupid to bitch; only 'cause they don't understand the slam...   :-D  KIDDING!!

Excuse me Keith??!!  Please remember who will be at your home on July 5th for a shoot....bare that in mind will ya??  Ummmm an opinion to this post.  WELL........  I could care less what the photographer looks like.  I mean....when I am doing pictures..I am fantasizing....and looking at the camera..not the photographer..sorry guys.  Helps with expression...really!  ANYWAY, I really could care less what the photographer looks like.  As long as they treat me with some decency and respect.  I treat everyone I am in contact with the way I would like to be treated and I do expect the same.  As long as the photographer and I get along great together...we will produce really great images together and though we are in the modeling business remember.....LOOKS FADE...  Enjoy!

I look like Johnny Depp playing Frankenstein, and I take great shots.

Which is better than Frankenstein dressing like Johnny Depp and taking bad photos.

I don't think it really matters what the photographer looks like.  You could have amazing photographic chemistry with someone you don't find the least bit attractive, or be completely uncomfortable with someone you find amazingly attractive!!

It doesn't matter what the photographer looks like it is the personality that will determine the comfort level- So far I have only not shot with one photographer-and he was 26 and decent looking but just gave me bad vibes....Bring on all the NICE old, bald or young, studly or white black or pink photographers as long as they know how to work the camera and the lighting I will shoot with them.  Remember us models want to look good so we don't care about the photographers looking good.

Yeah, looks and age don't matter.  Odd thing for me, is so far I have yet to work with anyother "ethnic" group than "old, blading, white guy." naw, i am joking. I worked with an old, balding white guy and i got along much better (and much better pictures) than the young, full head of hair, white guy. I had a chance to work with a woman and i jumped on it, that was a different experience...she knew how the female body worked and did not have me in horrible, unnatural posistions and how to get rid of skin folds...Really it is about personality, though.  If I get along with someone i will photograph with them much more. Now I sometimes do judge on equpitment-i was shooting with someone who had what looked like a point'n'shoot (canon coolpix 8200?) and i was kinda like, "what, are we taking real pictures here or snap shots?" especially since he had a SLR around his neck.  grr! make me  mad-ish!

um... whatever would make you think that we go to work imagining anything about the photographer gal/guy!! U may be fantasising about the model (hmm) but it sounds very weird indeed to me, imagining that the model would be having romantic ideas of some kind??

If you were there for the work, your work being the rwason they are there and the focus of the shoot, would YOU NOT realise they are there for the work / results not to asess your eligability or ''ideal guy-ism!?!

Sorry, maybe I just dont understand..what did you mean about the past shoots not panning out??

Personally so far I think perhaps you have betrayed the IM NOT LOOKING TO HOOK UP as a euphamism, at best!

ps
AH OK YEAH, I was OPEN to hook up once

never got back to me about the work planned (all BS) or gave me the shots agreed

funny enough, I have a shot of myself imbedded in my bio- I always have something available so people know who to look for when they meet with me for the first time (usually at a cafe' etc).  I did't really consider the ramifications, now I'm thinking I should go retouch a few blemishes!

I never visualize how a photographer looks. I do however tend to draw more conclusion into additude in our conversations on what to expect.
Communication is way more important to me pre-shoot then anything else. Lack of good communication shows in the work I think.
If a photographer is fat, skinny, tall, short, pink, blue or purple doesn't matter as long as she/he's great with a camera haha

I've worked with "aged" photographers as well as young, and it honestly doesn't matter to me what the photographer looks like, because I am at the shoot to work. I think as long as the photographer is going to help me produce the images I want, then he could be covered in warts and have a third eye for all I care.

Why would I fantasize about the model? I know exactly what she looks like. Also, I'm NOT talking about models fantasizing about becoming romantically involved with me or any photographer, I'm talking about something that most human beings have an inclination towards doing, imagining what someone who's only a name on a computer screen actually looks like. Don't know why you're being so cynical. Everyone else seems to know what I'm talking about. As for past shoots not panning out, I mean that I actually met with the models, we went over what kind of shots we were going for, the model seemed very pleased and anxious to shoot, then cancels, not the day before, not the day of the shoot, but while I'm sitting at the meeting place waiting for her. As for betraying my "no hookups" claim as a euphemism, if that's what you want to believe, fine. You're in the UK, 1000's of miles safely away from me.

I seriously don't care what the photographer looks like. I also don't have preconceived notions of what the photographer might look like. I care what the pictures look like!

I should add though that sometimes a photographer has certain physical limitations that may be nice to know before hand, so if we're shooting on location rather than a controlled environment like a studio, we can choose a location that may be more accommodating. Maybe I know a site that has the same things he or she is looking for, but would be easier for them to get around.

okai, in a way it does matter what the photog looks like because from the look of a person you can tell alot about his charachrter... i mean i dont care if hes fat old bald or white, as long as he doesnt look mean or abusive..
so sometimes its good to have an idea how the peson you are about to shoot with  looks like.

hehe its hard to tell but sometimes when you look at a person he/she can bring an inside feeling saying that better not to mess with that person.
and sometimes the opposite.
true, looks can be deceiving, but sometimes it can tell lots about the person.

If the photographer produces amazing images it doesn't matter what he/she looks like. It's all about personality! I've met a couple of photographers that I could tell were sleazeballs and I decided not to work with them. Like with any other aspect in my life I go with my gut. And I'm usually right! ;o) It's a numbers game dude. Maybe out of 30 emails or models you contact...only 2 or 3 will work with you. So then that means you gotta hit up 60 to get 6! Ya feel? I'm learning this more and more. Good luck!

Attractive-Ugly, Fat-Skinny, Bald-Hair, why should that matter? What matters is if the photog. is good at what he/she does, and if they are of the male pop. that he is not just some sick perv. out there trying to get his rocks off.

That is all I wanted to know. Enough of you have basically said the same thing, so I guess I can chalk up my no shows to non-professionalism. I was just putting out a possible scenario for why models fail to show, nothing more, despite what a certain U.K'er may think. Thanks for answering my question.
