No, not zombie stuff...Dia de los Muertos, the Mexican holiday (Nov 1 & 2) to remember and pay respect to those who have passed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_Dead

I'm looking to find a variety of artists who have created their own tribute to the dead...either in the traditional calavera/floral style of the holiday or their own interpretation.

I'm still waiting for the only model that knows what I want to tell me she's ready to shoot.

Dia de los Muertos is one of my favorite holidays!
Last year I was in a huge parade back home in Albuquerque.
Here's a pic:

I shot some Day of the Dead themed images for The Sugarplum Elves.

Here is one of the images.

Someone has even started a list of Day of the Dead images.  Not many on it, though.

I think I'm going to sit in here and watch this thread. I am still carefully planning out my day of the dead sleeve.

[of course, I should probably finish the other one first before I actually go on to my right arm. ha!]

This is like a Macy's Christmas display - months too early.

I don't have any of my Dia de los Muertes images online but I do have one that is in a similar vein. Shot in a church, even.

Not if you plan to build an altar for your local one.

Los Angeles used to have an active city-supported photographic program through the arts office, but they got a manager who disliked men, disliked photographers, and especially disliked men taking photos of pretty women and girls. To say that she was an ardent feminist is like describing a rabid Pitbull as merely a "dog." The manager closed down the main photographic facility (which had a large studio space and darkroom) by fiat without warning, and uses it now for many Hispanic events including religious activities like Dia De Los Muertos celebrations and shrines. There are major DDLM exhibits every year, and I expect this one will be no different. So if my distinguished colleagues want to see photos, as well as numerous shrines and other religious stuff, it'll be here. Unless they get stopped for using taxpayer money to support religious activities ... I know there had been rumblings over that in the past.

Religious?

It's just historical and cultural, right? Like a cross on a city seal, or In God We Trust on the money.
