There seems to be a lot of photographers who are also models here on MM.  I would like to see your best self-shot and hear about how you did it? Did you use a mirror, TV plugged into your digital camera, or just winged it?

My best one so far I think is: https://modelmayhem.com/pic.php?pic_id=43bade3d7f105
I just did a bunch of them until I got one that worked.

I have ginormous nipples. The girls dig em.

I'm too lazy with all the technical logistical stuff. When I want my picture taken, I just hand off the camera.

Confidence is great, but arrogance, not!

Going back to the gist of this thread,my favorite self-port is: https://www.modelmayhem.com/pic.php?pic … f5580552d4

Took it standing infront of the bathroom mirror. Looked up and  "click".

Hmm... I hope I don't come across as arrogant.  Sometimes I just get an idea of a shot I want to do and if it is possible, I first test the idea on myself.  I am just curious as to if others sometimes do the same.

Choose a longer lens and stand further back to get a more flattering shot...

TV plugged into the digital. It's the only way I can attempt it anymore, which is depressing because it's so limiting, locationwise. I really want to get out of my apartment and shoot in other locations (I've shot it to death by this point) but I can only shoot myself through the TV. I've tried it other ways and no go. It takes four times as long and only gives me results half as good.

I could not find a previous thread with this subject.  I only found threads where models wanted to see what the photogs looked like.  I started this thread because I wanted to know what was possible to create while not being able to look through the camera.  I think a person has to have good imagination in order to create this way. There is some amazing work here so far.  Maybe it will inspire others to try new things.  I certainly have some new ideas.

I like my self portrait, which is in my avatar...

Another one like that is on my website in my biography section... it's all for "effect" and recognition.

Especially since there is another Udo, German photographer in NYC, where he and I are constantly being mixed up... but, since we both have a different look... it helps a lot.

Edit: Oh... sorry... just realized that this is only for models who are also photographers... Well... I am sort of a nationally and internationally tattoo model ... big_smile... guess that this counts then LOL

it was a superhero party.
i happened to already have had the mask from about 5 years ago
https://www.friedbumblebees.com/photoboothwolverine.jpg

and then i decided that all i needed would be some gloves and some knives, all of which i picked up at a thrift store for a few dollars.
a little duct tape, and there you go. everything but the Adamantium bones.
and hey, i still was able to meet and make out with a girl that night!

and, as you may have already noticed, my friend Audrey is wearing the same getup (and looking 10x cuter) in the new picture i just uploaded.

This is an experiment. I was trying to do a painting with light photo of myself. Which, if you know anything at all about the technique, is extremely challenging. Not my best light painting photo ever, but definitely one of the most technically difficult. How do you light yourself by hand without moving for a 30 second exposure?

I used the timer on my camera.  Also, I used a bed sheet as the background....  And of course, I photoshopped the wrinkles (on the sheet, not me).

Ok. How did you do it without moving?  Robotics? Pendulum?

She's ain't bad as a model, either -- in fact, she's my favorite.  I can't post any of her images without her permission & she's taking a year abroad in Germany, so you'll have to be satisfied with one on my favorites that I've done with her...

There are a few more of her in my profile & of course, there are tons on my web site.

yeah, the one of her standing alone in the middle of what appears to be a dorm room, looking out the window... it just kills me how thick that is.
