South Jersey Scam? Help me please!
I was walking in the shopping center were I work and this guy beeped at me from his car and called me over. He thought I was some polish chick who works in some casino in Alantic City. When he found out I was not he continued to tell me how he was a part of a thing called Free Lance Photo, and he is like a go-between for companies and models, but not an agent. He said companies will go to him before an agent. I talked to him on the phone and told him the kinda of stuff I want to do, but he didn't seem too happy with that. He said he did more sports illustrated/ victoria's secret type stuff. He gave me his email with is freelancephoto69, the 69 seemed to bother me. I can't seem to find any info on him/the company he works with on the web. But it still strikes me as odd because I work in a town that is mainly old people... I am not sure what to do. He wants to do lunch on friday and look at some of my pics (he wants some that are considered sexy). I don't want to pass up an option to make a lot of money, but I don't want to get myself in trouble. Feb 08 06 10:33 am Link Is that how it really happens. A dude beeps his horn in a parking lot and girls go rushing to the car? You might be lucky you didn't get snatched in. If you feel in your belly that something is not right; maybe something is not right.... Feb 08 06 10:35 am Link Simple, ask for references and check them out first. Feb 08 06 10:42 am Link i think it is a 50/50 thing how i get the people i photo i just walk up to them and tell them that i am a photographer and ask if i could photo them am i a perv no dues it make some people fell weird yes and all i wont to do is photo them Feb 08 06 10:44 am Link Bring a friend! Feb 08 06 10:47 am Link Zion Imaging wrote: And when all the references are email addresses at free accounts and no phone numbers I'm sure they will all tell you how great he is... They will react to the beep and if they don't see anyone they recognize, they keep it moving. I'm not afraid to admit that I like to "people watch" because people doing just candid everyday things is some of the best entertainment on earth. Feb 08 06 10:57 am Link If you're really worried about the money, and seeing if he's for real. Go meet with him,and bring a friend of some sort. Mainly a male, because it seems to be a bit more intimidating. And then if the guy seems to become even more sketchy than drop him. Also, ask him for references very casually. If he has none he wants to give you, then tell him "No thanks." Feb 08 06 11:02 am Link Ana Kathleen wrote: Well, before you even agree to meet for lunch, call him back or e-mail him and ask for references (atleast 5), list of clients, business license, etc.... Ana Kathleen wrote: What kind of money did he promise you? If any? You state that you don't want to pass on a chance to make alot of money. If this guy is saying you will makes lots of money its a scam. Ana Kathleen wrote: I still have to shake my head in disbelief everytime I see a model write this. Why are you unsure? Use some common frickin' sense here people....there is nothing to be unsure about!!!! Feb 08 06 11:07 am Link Absolutely no reason to contact this guy. He's shady at best. No respectable agent would scout for talent this way. Feb 08 06 11:09 am Link Never believe anyone who calls you over with the beep of a horn. If hes legit, he'll approach you in a professional manner, not from behind a wheel. Dont do it. Just my opinion, I could be wrong. Feb 08 06 11:11 am Link Don't go. I also have never heard of anything like the situation this guy is describing. Feb 08 06 11:21 am Link TRUST YOUR GUT INSTINCT! Feb 08 06 11:22 am Link Pure G0DDess wrote: WOW! ALso, if you are insistent on going, take someone with you to the lunch. If he freaks out then he is not someone you want to work with. Your safety comes first, just remember that. Inferi Feb 08 06 12:41 pm Link stay away from this one. It's either someone after your money or looking to get laid. That's why models want agents! Feb 08 06 03:30 pm Link Hold up a sec. I don't know if this guy is shady or not, but... aren't many models "discovered" this way, a chance meeting or getting a card from someone in a store, on the street, etc...? Check for references, past work and see if it's worthwhile (and safe). Feb 08 06 03:33 pm Link I dont mean to be coming off harsh here, but c'mon, if you were my little sister no way in hell. I am gonna play big brother here, no way. Some random guy honks his horn at you, pulls up in his car and says he wants to photgraph you in a provocative half naked manner, has given no references to you at this point and given you same email that ends in 69, which already is making you a bit leary?????? He shoots down your idea's about what you want!! Money will come and go, its not the most important thing in this world, don't get caught up in your missing out on a big shot or chance to make some money over your safety. Think smart about this... A real agent might discover someone this way but a GWC wanting to shoot provative photos is another story and clearly thats what he was....and the ivitation to dinner is another give away that this is more then just a professional interest....how about the email address? isnt that a red flag as well? if it waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck.....its probably a duck. Feb 08 06 05:08 pm Link I would say go, but be sure to wear full body armor and carry a very large gun in each hand. Feb 08 06 05:15 pm Link |
