Feb 09 06 01:25 am Link I've waited to post this until I found out what the majority of you "younsters" had to say. It is a situation about which I had no persnal doubt, but I wasn't sure how photographers and models (hell, people) who are less than half my age thought about it. I am encouraged by these posts. Other than those made entirely for their humor value, most of you seem to think that professional behavior is more important than age. I, of course, agree. One more thing to reinforce that attitude is this: People of my age group (beyond retirement age) grew up in a culture where manners and courtesy were considered paramount. How you said or did somethng was as important as what you said or did. Our parents and teachers enforced that attitude with an iron fist. It was more embarassing to a parent to be told his kid was rude than to say he was a thief. I'm serious about that. Those values stick with you for life. To this day, it is a gut-wrenching experience to read someone off viciously. (Of course, one of the primary courses in Poli.. Sci. is to teach you to ignore that.) It was a kinder, gentler time, although perhaps not as brutally honest! All this input from people I would like to call my peers is encouraging. Thank you. Feb 09 06 09:59 pm Link I'd like to think as I get older I wll get better...And plus..HELL after a certain age I'd hope to have a great name and young hot chicks wont see me as a threat and may actually seek me out for my skills. Knowing I am well beyond chasing em around the studio for some knooky......LOL BCG...you really sit around and think this stuff up hey? Dont you have a mission or something to tend too? shrug.. Feb 10 06 09:37 pm Link Bodyartist wrote: you should work for th UN...you have ambassador skilz Feb 11 06 05:53 am Link Age is typically respected where I come from. I get as many requests to teach camera and set up technique before, during and after shoots as I do anything else. And while the Santa thing can get a little overwhelming sometimes, many of my folk are performing arts and are more than delighted to have someone that looks like they might actually know what they are doing, and is willing to listen to their ideas and needs for their own folios rather than imposing what the photographer might find trendy of the moment. Trust and reliability, sincere respect and an honest reputation are both priceless and ageless, though it really does take time to gain that experience. After all this time, I continue to learn, to listen and hopefully from time to time gain a little more wisdom in my work and my own life for that matter. But then, I do shoot nudes of all ages also, and I never shoot underage or accept their word on their age. I will say this though, there was, and still is, a fair sized area of nude work, that is not particularly commercial, but social, in the nudist and naturist lifestyle. And although here in the US that has become more and more iffy in the wisdom of publishing the content due to the all ages family atmosphere generally including a lot of underage children in the images, in other countries, that is not very much a concern. I have a few friends that are both nudists and very fine artists, but they keep their photographic work mostly in the resorts and lifestyle, displaying only their paintings and sculptures at mainstream shows and venues. In any case... warm and jolly, mellow and respectful.. Creepy we shoot. chuckle.. and not with a camera. spirits bless, Marion Feb 11 06 07:55 am Link It's completely and totally unrelated to age. Locally, the two guys with reps as extremely creepy photographers are about 25 and 35 years of age. There's another guy who is over 65, and has a rep as a gentleman. This one hits home because there is a guy near here who has a rep as a groper... he's fortunately not a photographer... and I've personally watched him cross the line on one occasion. He apparently does this one or more times at every social event (he's in his 30s). I've just been tipped off by some of the local ladies that there are plans in store for him tonight... potentially painful plans. This could be fun to watch. Feb 11 06 05:37 pm Link Ken, you might want to edit out the "accessory before the fact" charge you just left yourself open to. Feb 11 06 06:49 pm Link Id say it would be creepy if the photographer started sweating profusely, followed by heavy panting and unbuttoning of any articles of clothing. then again.... this rendition of creepy could also be a warning sign that you photographer is having a heart attack in which case your reaction to OMG! YOU'RE F'IN SICK should be OMG YOU'RE F'IN DYING! in which case you should either call 911! or your best friend and say..."OMG Jenny.... I am SOOO hot.. I just gave my old photographer a heart attack! I thought he was being perverted but it turns out hes just dying! haha." Feb 11 06 06:56 pm Link Nude photography shouldn't be some sexual thing, so it shouldn't be creepy to be photographed by an older man. If I wanted to do nudes, and the best guy happened to be 78, then I'd be photographed by him. If you're photographing nudes with the intent getting aroused, then you're the creepy one, not the old guy.
