Chili, I know about it, and I could not make it...but that was not a MM meet up. It was your show which you invited people to, many from here..

more than one MM moderator has said "there is no such thing as an 'offical' MM meetup" and that anyone can organize one. (when 2 or more are gathered in my name, etc etc) and several moderators told me to feel free and go ahead and organize one for DEC which i did. YES, i combined it with an event of mine. but it was posted in the correct forum as "a NYC DEC MM meetup".

Now if today, a moderator wants to say  "oh no, it wasnt 'sanctioned' by the MM powers that be" thats fine too

Well, I only got your e-mail and never saw the forum back then...But there were a total of four official MM meet-up's in NYC, as far as I can remember.

Calm down, anyone can start one. No call for misquoting people yet. Not sure how I missed that you did one in December.

Maybe we should have some gathering guidelines, like no two meetings within an hour's drive of eachother, etc. More rules of thumb than rules of the road. Anyway, getting off topic.

This is the fourth one I'll have organized.

I will post the location as soon as it's confirmed. Tomorrow I'm going to scout the bar Stephen Bodi recommened weeks ago and if it looks good I'll chat then and there or call them and let the manager know we're coming.

Ok Chili, Brian found your meetup thread from December.

https://modelmayhem.com/posts.php?thread_id=17753

Here's the thing... it totally looks like the event was about you being a star.

MM meetups cannot be about someone being the star and they can't be something where models get in free and photograpers and stylists have to pay.

We all need to be on a level playing field if we're going to get together under the MM banner, and I think if we're going to have rules of thumb for MM meetups this has to be the first actual MM Meetup rules: (1) the organizer or their business cannot be the star and (2) we don't have them in a place where anyone from Model Mayhem is going to have to pay a cover.

No offense to you, Chili, but that was nothing like the other three NYC meetups, and reaks of an eliteist foundation that just doesn't jive with the spirit of Model Mayhem's community.

Just to be clear, it was this part of your posting...

All mayhem models of course will be admitted free and in all likelyhood afforded VIP access (bottle service, champagne, etc., well at least for my featured models in the show)

you other $2 PBR guys should get in free too and i will get yous (if you ask nicely) some free drink tickets

...that I take issue with.

Not that you decided to organize an event, which I think is great.

If I had known, I would have given you access to the nycmeetup user account to advertise. I was out of town and not looking in at Off Topic (seldom go in there anyway).

So let's just forget about it and have some fun at this one.

hey ched, in the original 'context' of the ongoing discussion in that forum i think it was pretty well understood by all that i was screwing around with some of the guys. the whole $2 PBR was just a joke/busting balls, everyone (M or F, model, MUA, or tog) who showed up got in for free, got free drinks, and got free VIP service.

now the vibe i got that month also, was that some people (probably 60/40) were tired of having the meetups in local salons, and wanted something more 'elitist'.

and i dont know if i agree with the ' no star' rule, cuz if someone else is picking up the whole tab, then they're a star in my book, and they can be the star of the show/night, maybe ask people how they feel about it first?

Chili: Ok. Working on the meetup rules thing as a moderator side project, will have to get back to you. Any thoughts you have on organization and your "lessons learned" from putting it on, please PM me.

I'm not sure. I didn't make it over there today, going tomorrow. I'll let you know what the bar's policy is on underage admission.

I've been talking to a couple people and it seems time to have another MM meetup in the fashion capitol.

Fashion Week is coming up and I know a couple of you will be on life support after that, so we're looking at Saturday the 18th.

Location: 288 (aka Tom and Jerry)

(288 Elizabeth Street*** about 15 steps north of Houston Street)

***Do not use Google Maps to find it, they list the bar at 40 Elizabeth Street which is incorrect.

The closest subway stop is Bleecker Street on the 6.

BTW, the bar is DOG FRIENDLY

There is a large long table in the back under the video screen and I was told if we get someone there at 8pm we should be able to hold it for the group. Volunteers?

This month's location recommended by Stephen Bodi (MM#8494)

So, to recap...

Who wants to go drinking with their dog?
Since when did Dogs become citizens?
What is it with Dog People that they have to take their damn pets everywhere they go? That's what spouses and kids are for...

A bar is not a place for kids or dogs...

Why don't you have everyone who intends to go to the meet RSVP and let you know if they are planning on bringing a pet or are under 21.  See what the majority is and choose a place accordingly.

Because that would require more effort and co-ordination.

Stephen mentioned it was dog friendly after I had already checked it out and thought it was a good place to have the gathering. That was not in my decision process. I only later found out that he had suggested it so the various mascots could come too.

This is like our first meetup location only more eccentric. Main drawback is no Galaga, but it's in Manhattan so I think that is a decent tradeoff.

So you really don't want to Network, you just want to go out and drink? And hope other people show up so you won't drink alone?

Chili and I are talking about doing a more industry-centric than website-centric meetup, if that's what you're worried about. This is to meet the people here on the site. Other opportunities for other things are probably on the way.

I just want to meet people to work with, match names to faces, that sort of thing. I wasn't really expecing a kind of Spanish Inquisition...
