Any suggestions for a good metallic creme makeup/body paint that is safe to use on the face?  What about the creme makeup you can buy at halloween?  I'm looking for something in gold, silver, copper, or translucent that can be used in large amounts to cover the whole face.

Nonononono to the Halloween crap. The stuff they sell in most Halloween type stores is gopy, messy, and difficult to keep from getting messed up. It is also often a pain to remove.

There are a couple different methods, and they vary quite a bit. Kryolon, Mehron, and others offer waterbased metallic makeup, some also offer metallic cosmetic powders which give a more subtle effect, or can be mixed with oils or mixing fluid for a much bolder look.

I used a mixture for the gold on this one...

Hope this helps.

I've used silver tempera paint - the kind that costs $2/bottle at craft stores. It's designed to be "kid safe" which presumably means you can practically eat it. As an "undercoat" I have the model rub down first with eros bodyglide to fill the pores so they don't wind up with "silver heads" afterward. This is a plus since you can shoot "oily" shots (see my shots in Kobe Lee's portfolio
https://www.modelmayhem.com/pics.php?id=23936
as an example) Then you can jump into the metallic shots. Kobe's port has a picture of her butt in silver and her torso in bodyglide, both shot by me.

It showers off with soap. The bodyglide is really good for your skin and leaves everything soft and nice afterwards, too!

The only downside of tempera paint is that it dries out, since it's water-based. So you need to shoot promptly and put it on thickly (and keep putting it on) if you want a heavy glossy look. That may not work if you have a model running around leaving silver handprints and buttprints on things. Or it may. Peeling silver looks really cool, too.

The stuff Rich is talking about is if you're serious about your body painting. Depending on whether you want quick complete coverage or detail applied over time, your mileage may vary. I totally defer to Rich on the "real" body painting, though. My objectives with paint were to create a quick and wild effect.

Tempera is not a good idea for the face. First, even though it is a very safe product, you are dealing with facial skin and you are better off using the right product. Secondly, for a full face shot the tempera will dry off too quickly and will crack and flake every time the model changes expression. You would be lucky to even get a couple minutes worth of shooting in. Spend a bit more money and get the right stuff. Also, be carefull around the eyes, as many metallics are not made for use around the eyes, so you might want to have some matching color eye shadow and etc. and blend that into your other product if needed.

Remember, when all else fails regarding putting things on the face, read the label.

Oh my Eric!  I mean the pic is nice and all... lol!  That looks like something Tim Fishetti used to use.  He used to work with you alot.  Is that his work?

To OP:
I use a great liquid from Kryolan that I run through my airbrush.  It is safe for the face.

Sorry, Eric, we can't delete people's posts.  The best you can do is edit 'em and put something like "(duplicate post)" or something in 'em.

Lets see.  I know bare escentuals has many metallic shades in their liner/shadows.  You can mix with a bit of water to give it a slick look.  They are one of the better lines for your skin and are very easy to remove.

well theres alot of great poducst out there, you can get creams or aqua colours from Kryolon and Mehron they both are awsome products and work really well, if your just wanting to make the skin look metallic try a shimmer powder by Ben Nye they are the most heavily picgmented products I have ever found. You can also get liquid metallics from Kryolon as well, I used this on a 6 bodies for a photo shoot it looked so great it was as if I turned the skin to silver, Also if you want to try something like gold foil or sliver foil you can get it at craft or paint stores. I used this on a project and if you use a non toxic glue stick or baby oil gel or hair spray you can apply the gold foil to the skin and it looks like its part of the skin. smile Hope this helps smile

Rich and deadly designs have the info you seek - the only other thing I can add is you may also want to try Stardust thatis manufactured by the Liquid Latex people. Although it's not intended for use by itself - It works very much like the mehron product with baby oil - very bery messy though - and IT DOESN'T DRY.

but the good news is - it's easy to clean as well.

Kryolan is my best suggestion..BUT..if you want the cheap way out ..the craft store sells packs of metallic face paint with 6 different colors for $3.99 never used them before but, it might be worth a shot.

On the pic in my port of Anita with the gold all over I used a mixture of light liquid bronzer, and metallic gold powder
