I understand the difference between artistic nude and porn. I'm just curious about one thing...

Is it normal for a photographer to ask a model to "touch herself" during an artistic nude shoot? I mean, to me that just seems a little strange...

It depends on the theme of the photo shoot.  I know a fantastic photographer here who is currently specializing in artistic masturbation photographs.

But I really think that's something that should be discussed beforehand.  To spring something like that on someone during a shoot in a terrible idea.  If you aren't comfortable doing it, don't do it.

It really depends on how the model was instructed. Did he say to hold your breasts or bottom? Did he want you to simulate masterbation? or actual? Was it a set up shot, take the photo then move to the next shot?

I suppose implied masturbation could be considered artistic nude depending on the subject matter of the shoot. If the photographer is asking you to get yourself off while he takes pictures, that's a bit different.
But the most important thing here is this and it can't be said enough - if you didn't agree to do it, don't feel comfortable doing it, or  just plain don't want to do it, then don't do it. This applies to any shoot, not only this example.

Yes, yes- thats all normal.  Uh huh- the only time you need to get worried is when he comes in with farm animals.

Hi Lavette,
So much depends upon the circumstances and every incident must be examined on a case-by-case basis.

If a woman is modeling nude and a photographer asks her to cover her front with open hands and look embarrassed, I see nothing wrong with that.  If she is wearing undergarments and the photographer asks her to put one or two hands inside, that probably crosses the line even though it is more suggestive then revealing.

If model agrees to pose nude or implied, some reasonable degree of self-touching is to be expected, but the model is within her rights to reject a pose when the pose moves into the area of titillation - and that is the model's call IMO.

First I want to apologize for double posting. I couldn't find the thread earlier, all of the threads were not showing up.

I have no problems with touching my breasts or my inner thighs, but the way it was said, it sounded like he wanted me to masturbate.

I shot a suicide girl type session and towards the end of the shoot, I asked her to slide a hand in the waist band and simulate masturbation, I think she went a bit too far with it, but we got the shots.

Next question?

I think it all has to be discussed beforehand.

A lot of people's definitions are entirely different.  Some photogs have told me that would be an erotic nude and some have told me that erotic nudes are more than one person while artistic nudes are anything having to do with you and your nude body.

If you're not comfortable, don't do it.

No that would fall under the porn pic, but that is just me

As stated before:  If you are not comfortable with it, don't do it.

Now... You should really be concerned if the photographer asks you if HE can touch himself during the shoot... scary, dary!!!!   smile

one time a woman requested some tasteful budoir nudes but had a last min pimple close to her gig so i had her 'touching herself' to cover it.
