I have read over the few posts regarding references and please understand I am sleepy (read lazy smile). So I may have overlooked what I am asking. I have been out of photography for many a year now and have not done much modeling photography recently. So I really don't have any references that are models. So as a newbie, what type of references would be acceptable to models that would put them at ease. I don't mind an escort along when I'm able to actually book a shoot. As long as they are not the interfereing type and I could always use a good suggestion. I consider myself to be easy going and open minded to suggestions. But on the occasion that a model does not have an escort but is still interested in working with me, would references from say a co-worker, neighbor, people I have worked with in the past, basically the character type references. Would those types be acceptable? I could always use my children but being that I am the "GREATEST DAD IN THE WORLD" they might be a bit biased towards me smile.
Any input and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Wayne

I think any models you've worked with in the past and let them know right up front they can bring an escort if they want as long as they don't get in the way. Also, suggest meeting at a coffee shop or a diner (someplace public) for an inital meeting that way you can discuss ideas for the shoot in person and get a feel for each other, the shoot will be more comfortable that way as well!!! Hope that helps a little!!!

This is very helpful. The only problem I have is that I have been out of this type of work for so long that I have not had contact with the models I have worked with in the past. So unfortunately they are not an option for me as a reference. I am currently working on meeting with a male model so that we can talk over what he is looking for. I am also trying to coordinate a lunch or coffee meet with a MUA. Right now all we are trying to get done is some good updates for our portfolio's. But again Thank you for your response, it echoed what I had in mind which means to me that I'm working towards the right direction.
Anyone else care to reply please do.

I was new to the net and had taken a less visible approach to the business a little over  a year ago.

I offered references from businesses that were long standing,  that you could walk into and ask for references and most of the staff would say- "oh yes,  We know Mark and he is cool".

Not email addresses or phone numbers that could be anyone.

Some wanted phone numbers to former models,   I would not give those.   Takes time to build up the rep on the net even if you have one in a seperate universe.

Yes! Yes! I've had models ask me for my references phone numbers and that just ain't happenin'. I always give them the model's e-mail address and tell them they are more than welcome to ask the reference for her phone number.

Doug. Are you sure you're not the Aussie version of me? We seem to agree on a lot of the same stuff.

Yes,  exactly John.   That is why I think if you have been printed then they can go to the library and I usually try to meet models in a public place before hand anyway.

Or a business that is not fly by night that where you could not only call but walk into and get a reference.

I can understand a model being hesitant over an hotmail account of a model but I am private myself and having a maybe model call some of my favorites is just not going to happen.

Sorry,  I often do not like the land based vs the net world talk but models do not want to be called for such things.

Makeup artists actually make great references.   But I am not paying for the long distance charges.
