Shayuma is so damn beautiful... it just... it just... it just doesn't make sense... ???

Let me add Sapphire and Martina to the equation. Good god almighty! They are both insanely hot... There's something major going on with those 2 Texas ladies... they seem to be on a whole other level.

My point is the euphamism urban is obnoxious.  I live in a city; Devhora and Maxine do not, but I suspect I'm not what he had in mind. I gather from the rest of his post, he's trying to say "models of color" or hip-hop style oriented models.

Oh ok.......So do you find the term Urban Fashion obnoxious also?
How about "alt"  model?

So what you live in a city and Maxine and Devhora do not are you saying they do not qualify as "Urban" models?

Actually, I do find the "alt" designation somewhat obnoxious, however, it bears some resemblance to the actual definition of alternative. Urban means pertaining to a city.  I'm standing up for the English language here.

On a similar note, we are ethnic, even white ango-saxon protestants, so that's probably not what's being asked here either.

Aww thank you Veester! I never really looked at myself as an urban model. But hey, if it gets me work, then I'll be that.

Aye Provide, Aswad, and Urban Prospect, thank you too for throwing my name in the mix. I love you guys!!!

I think it is a good question.  I didn't see it as an attack!  If you are looking for non-white minorities, I have favorites, if not, I have some more favorites!  No point suggesting white alternative models if that is not what the OP is looking for!

relax!

I'm just curious to know what the definition of an "Urban" model is?

I've heard of fashion, runway, plus size, petite, swimsuit, lingerie, glamour, commercial and a couple of others, but never Urban.

Just curious.

i think the modeling market lacks ethnics. Altho its much better now than it was but it still sucks for ethnics.

Hi Eric and Theda,

I will try to explain the term as best as I can. The term refers to magazines that represent the HipHop culture and movement. In the past few years magazines have been popping up quite abit representing a view that is more hardcore that people from the Hiphop scene can relate to more.

Now Urban magazines does not mean it is Minority owned because for example Latina or Ebony
magazines are not considered Urban magazine and I can name some more.

Now an Urban model is more of the ideal woman that Men who are into the HipHop scene desire and want.
Which is a more shapely woman and is not just models of color because an Urban magazine I had one of my pics in had a white model in the section from 7 models featured. Also BlackMens magazine use white models as well but from time to time.

The term Urban is something new to refer to the type of models being used for magazines that represent the HipHop scene like Goth or Gothic models.
I can use the Webster meaning for Goth which is something like some German Race that conquered the Romans back in the days but when I hear Goth in the modeling term I think of a light skinned model. Also I have met a few Goth models which were Spanish that seam to fit in the catagory.

Anybody can step in and explain better if I have not been clear on the Urban term the way it is being used here in this Thread.

Also one more thing if anyone is interested in I have heard the term Urban refer to a Resistance and movement toward main stream like a voice from the street being heard. When working for Urban mags.

You are hitting the nail on the head.Urban seemed, at least to my old ass, a term that became interchangable with hip hop in the board room.

Most people seem to get your point and know that the urban model has a certain look and attitude.

I was very confused last night; when I was watching Glory, the promos told me that it was an "urban classic".  There were very few cities depicted as far as I could tell...

But I don't mind the term "urban"--at least in terms of music--as it is the antithesis of "country".

Hmmm, I'm thinking this woman I know named Michelle would be perfect for this.  Well-read.  Well-traveled.  She absolutely bleeds sophistication and refinement...

...wait.

I'm sorry, I thought this was urbane models.  Ooops.

Ok sorry people I have been away from the computer for a minute. lets see if I can help out some. from my perspective I think Robert Perez hit the term as was said right on the head. Now I didnt mean to pit other type models against the urbz I am just interested in seeing who people like best in the now so popular urban magazine and video arena. so this wasnt just a who's hott on MM but a wide search. although I am feelin alot of these suggestions. so I thank you all and keep it goin. also feel free to hit me up.

To agree with Theda, I did not know what an "urban model" or "urban modeling shoots" were. (horrible; for I am a non-white minority..well actually I'm half white, but since I get "where are you from, or go back where you came from, or are you japanese?" I assume that can not be seen.)
