MUA is pronounced Moo-a but don't let any makeup artists catch you making a cow joke...you could find it VERY difficult to find stylists around here!

A lot of this stuff didn't add up... no consistency, mixing his own frustration about whatever, with stuff that a full time photographer does with stuff that wannabe photographers do, with a dash of misguided sarcasm.

Now... I am wondering:

Look, clearly the original post may have listed a few examples that didnt make any sense- but I understand the motivation.

Alot of you professionals are a tad bit uppity and tend to figure anyone who doesnt do this for a living isnt as serious as you all are.  I think thats the underlying point in the original post- though the delivery of the humor and sarcasm may have been lacking- I see where the poster was coming from.

Im not saying all pros- Im just saying its a general attitude that is pretty widespread and can be seen by anyone reading these forums.

I read most of them as tongue in cheek, but still, none really applied to me.
I love to have fun on and off the set, I tend to be a slave driver and keep focused until we get all the shots that were scheduled but that’s me as a person in general.

I felt like that too, but I sure have to admit he put a lot of effort into that and doesn't deserve this bash fast (though I'm the one who started it). The inconsistency is clear, but if you losen up on him a little you will be able to tell that he gave it all that effort with clear intention to put a smile on people's faces. I'm guessing this is going through his head now:

"F**k you people, I wanted to enlighten these forums a bit, spent time to put it all together and you're now flaming me like a little kid. What a waste trying to perhaps make someone's day, screw you all, f**kers"

And after our replies he has full right to feel like that. I don't sense any ill intentions in his post. Let's not make him feel like an idiot.

There has been plenty of bashing on GWCs but if someone can't laugh at themselves then what kind of sense of humor do they have?  Not every point he makes applies to every pro but not every GWC uses wronkled up bed sheets as backgrounds.  Lighten up, people.

1) If you obsess over who should pay whom

Dont care as long as it's me.

2) If you think how much your equipment cost is indicative of your status

I probably have less camera equipment than most of the amateurs.

3) If you harp about amateur photographers and semi-pro photographers (GWCs as you call them), especially ones who are gaining on you daily with their style and quality, but don't have your status or contacts

I really don't care what amateurs do unless they are driving down prices by giving quality work away for free.

4) If you need a permission slip to shoot in certain places instead of doing what your heart really wants

Only permission slip I ever use is my Golden Eagle Pass to the the National Parks.

5) If you hold onto your day job because you don't make enough money from your professional job as a photographer to leave it

Sorry, no day job. Shoot or starve is the motto around here.

6) If you have more MM or OMP posts than you have dollars in your bank account from your professional photography

My post count is going to take awhile to get there.

7) If you have photgraphy "peeves" instead of gripes or complaints

Guilty. I guess I might be a professional.

8) If your model shows you an editing trick that you should know [afterall, you are a professional, right], but don't

Never had a model show me any tricks. I'm trying to learn to do a cartwheel if any models out there want to help me out.

9) If you get upset because your friend who is a professional photographer only has a five megapixel camera and kicks your @$$ with it

I don't have any pro photographer friends.

10) If you shoot porn on the side to supplement your income, but don't want others to know you shoot porn because then they'd know you aren't the superstar professional photographer making the big bucks that you portray yourself as

Don't shoot porn but I have shot nudes and other content for websites. I've also shot mass graves, combat, fashion shows, football games, portraits, weddings, etc... A check is a check.

11) If you get upset when your model asks you to supply the wardrobe because she thinks her clothes aren't good enough

She'd be SOL unless she wants to wear something out of my closet full of T-Shirts and comfortable shorts.

12) If you call a make up artist a MUA

I'd never say it to her face but I might type it online.

13) If you need a make up artist

I never need one. But sometimes the model does depending on the look we are trying for.

14) If you get upset when models contact you for TFPs/TFCDs when you do paid shoots, but then turn around and hypocritically contact models who do paid shoots, and ask them for TFPs/TFCDs

I'll shoot with just about anyone depending on their attitude and ability to sign a release.

15) If you get upset when a model arrives late (some of these girls fly to see you, or drive to see you...have some understanding)

I get mad at anyone who is inconsiderate enough to have anyone wait for them.

16) If you get upset when the model who in some cases is paying your @$$ to shoot them, shows up late

If their paying, then they are a customer and we all know that the customer is always right.

17) If you feel the need to put down amateur photographers or semi-professional photographers in a thread for a laugh

Is that what I'm doing right now?

18) If you get upset if a model wants to bring an escort with her

I could really care less. The only time I don't like it is when Bubba is built like a tank and is greedily eyeing the expensive camera gear.

19) If a have to buy the latest photo editing software when it comes out

I'm still on PS7

20) If you get upset when someone brings their own camera to their shoots, which they are some times paying for, even if they don't interfere with your shoot

Never had it happen but if you're going to shoot with your own camera, why am I here?

21) If you feel the need to jump in on a thread when someone mentions "teen" and "nude" in the subject

Huhh?

22) If you give your model microscopic images as a result of a shoot because you think the person will take advantage of larger ones. If you are such  professional, then no matter what is done with the images, they will not look as good as yours once you've did your editing

I never give models unedited images and I don't allow models to PS the images themselves. They get the same images I do.

23) If you leave a glowing tag for any new model who looks hot in hopes she will do a TFP/TFCD with you or pay to shoot with you

I don't play tag. I'm old and slow and can't seem to catch anyone.

24) If you think your photographer reputation is the most important thing in your life

Well, it does pay the bills so it is sort of important to some of us. The most important thing though is being able to do something you truly love for a living.

I could go on, but hopefully my rebel, amateur photographer, semi-professional photograher allies will join me, and add their input.

Last, but not least.

25) If you don't post a reply to this thread because it hits to close to home, or because you don't know how to handle it

Sorry, didn't hit very close to home and I think I've got it handled pretty well.

Well, do I qualify? Might I be a professional?

It often is... but I was really referring to the OP.

I read through it and started to answer each point... but half way through... I just thought that it just doesn't make sense.

If it would have been as a consistent funny stuff about "posers", would have been great, but he mixed in stuff that is just part of full time professional photography, e.g.

4) If you need a permission slip to shoot in certain places instead of doing what your heart really wants
What if my heart tells me that I really want to shoot at this really cool place, and make it happen by getting the permission?

13) If you need a make up artist
Well... errr... duh..., shooting for an add, a magazine or a models portfolio... I don't know how to apply make up, and many models are just not as good at it like a professionally trained make up artist.

16) If you get upset when the model who in some cases is paying your @$$ to shoot them, shows up late
Maybe because you have the next shoot scheduled right after this one, with another client that pays, or a magazine...

24) If you think your photographer reputation is the most important thing in your life
As a professional, your images and reputation in the industry is all you have to be able to stay in business and getting paid

Those are just the points that are valid for every photographer in business.

But, he mixed in stuff like that:

1) If you obsess over who should pay whom
Which is simply stupid, because it depends on the job and client.

2) If you think how much your equipment cost is indicative of your status
I don't think that there are too many pros out there that care about that... they want to get the job done and receive payment.

3) If you harp about amateur photographers and semi-pro photographers (GWCs as you call them), especially ones who are gaining on you daily with their style and quality, but don't have your status or contacts
Seems like personal feelings got hurt sometimes down the road

5) If you hold onto your day job because you don't make enough money from your professional job as a photographer to leave it
I know in fact excellent shooters who supplement their income with second jobs... they hustle... living in NYC is not cheap. But... so what?

6) If you have more MM or OMP posts than you have dollars in your bank account from your professional photography
Don't know what to say here... personally, I am not on OMP, and one of the oldest active member on MM and have less posts than some members who are here for 2 months.

7) If you have photgraphy "peeves" instead of gripes or complaints
I don't even know what he was trying to say here.

8) If your model shows you an editing trick that you should know [afterall, you are a professional, right], but don't
I haven't been shown a "trick" yet, but I personally never know it all.

9) If you get upset because your friend who is a professional photographer only has a five megapixel camera and kicks your @$$ with it
This merely means that he, himself may emphasize too much on his gear.

10) If you shoot porn on the side to supplement your income, but don't want others to know you shoot porn because then they'd know you aren't the superstar professional photographer making the big bucks that you portray yourself as
Porn gigs... huh? It pays well? Got contacts in NYC?

11) If you get upset when your model asks you to supply the wardrobe because she thinks her clothes aren't good enough
Not sure about this one either... if I need clothes, I have a handful of designers that provide clothes even furs that are thousands of dollars worth.

12) If you call a make up artist a MUA
Didn't really get that one... is that if someone pronounces "Mua"?

14) If you get upset when models contact you for TFPs/TFCDs when you do paid shoots, but then turn around and hypocritically contact models who do paid shoots, and ask them for TFPs/TFCDs
Don't think that this is an issue for full time professionals... because we know that models get paid when shot for clients...

15) If you get upset when a model arrives late (some of these girls fly to see you, or drive to see you...have some understanding)
16) If you get upset when the model who in some cases is paying your @$$ to shoot them, shows up late
Both are pretty much redundant.

17) If you feel the need to put down amateur photographers or semi-professional photographers in a thread for a laugh
I don't think that a hardworking full time photographer is operating this way at all.

18) If you get upset if a model wants to bring an escort with her
I had once an entire family attending a shoot with a model. I don't care as long as all shut up and let me work.

19) If a have to buy the latest photo editing software when it comes out
Geez... ACDSee8 (49 bucks, does all I need)

20) If you get upset when someone brings their own camera to their shoots, which they are some times paying for, even if they don't interfere with your shoot
If there is a professional shoot... I have the camera, while I work... I am the one who works... If I take a break, shoot away.

21) If you feel the need to jump in on a thread when someone mentions "teen" and "nude" in the subject
How does that make someone professional or unprofessional? Don't get it...

22) If you give your model microscopic images as a result of a shoot because you think the person will take advantage of larger ones.
Microscopic... well, but I make money by shooting models for their portfolio and when they reorder prints. Now, in my experience... a model will never get back to you and ask you to edit images for print or internet... So, she prints stuff out, agencies see an undedited image and my name comes up as the photographer... I want to have control over what is being published. I think that this is simply professional.

23) If you leave a glowing tag for any new model who looks hot in hopes she will do a TFP/TFCD with you or pay to shoot with you
That must be the OP's own doing, and don't see actual shooters doing that... at least not here.

I could go on, but hopefully my rebel, amateur photographer, semi-professional photograher allies will join me, and add their input.
This is where I have the feeling that he has a vendetta with guys who posed as full timers and wants to gang up on people he believes to be full timers.

Last, but not least.

25) If you don't post a reply to this thread because it hits to close to home, or because you don't know how to handle it
Here he assumes that he knows what constitutes a professional behaviour.

Well... now I discected his points... as if I don't have to get some rest... 'cause... thanks to my reputation... I got a job for jewelry (print add and magazine interview with the designer) on Saturday...

No weekend off for full timers...
