Signature Style
What's your signature style as a model, photographer, stylist, MUA? Donald Trump has the red tie that he wears with his business suits. What's yours? What differs you from all the other models, photographers, stylists, and MUAs? Oct 30 05 02:45 pm Link Mine is I love to put weman in men's suits I think it just is the cooliest look and that's my trade mark. Oct 30 05 02:50 pm Link Playing with light. When I'm not doing the light paintings you see in my portfolio, I'm wandering around the area taking night scenery. Oct 30 05 02:52 pm Link clean and simple...I like everything clean...even my edgy makeup stuff is exacting and clean. If one thing is out of place (like a stray hair) I can't stand it. For me a shot is fabulous or terrible, there isn't much in between, just one little thing out of place and it ruins the shot for me. Oct 30 05 03:59 pm Link Everytime I shoot I look different Oct 30 05 04:04 pm Link derek jason photography wrote: My suit has been worn by many women, since I am a 34 chest it compliments them verry well Oct 30 05 04:06 pm Link I know I'm going to get flak for this, but a "signature" of mine is posing ladies for my website with a fake "time bomb" prop. Yes, it implies all sorts of things, but the ladies are fully clothed, and most of my photos have the look of bad miniseries/movie drama where the captured heroine watches the timer tick inevitably closer to 0:00... I do get some comments from my colleagues in the damsel-in-distress field such as Finicky (MM 9891) who says that the bomb prop is "cheesy" (Right, pal?) and from Isobel Wren (MM 23168) who said that the prop is the equivalent of my "teddy bear"... again her words. I actually also gave one of these props that I've built with Vesta (MM 2404) in exchange for her doing 100 or so photos posing with it as a damsel in distress. Frankly, since she was the lady running FetishCon 2005 at the time, I think she welcomed the idea of being able to do something else for 15-20 minutes. As for why I do it...well the customers who visit my site are looking for the classic damsels in peril and I can build a prop like that for less than $10. The most expensive part is the cheapie timer that's taped to the road flares along with the wires and such. After all, there isn't all that much money in villainy... Oct 30 05 04:08 pm Link When I can I try to tell a story using in-camera double exposure. There just seems to be more fun for me, and a more organic look by doing it in the camera instead of the computer or darkroom. Oct 30 05 04:17 pm Link Mary wrote: I like that, the whole clean and simple. It's hot. Oct 30 05 04:44 pm Link I stick with the basics and keep my images as naturally beautiful as possible. Oct 30 05 07:40 pm Link Mixing toycamera technology with fetish/erotic aesthetics. I can honestly say I don't know of anyone who pursues the idea as fully as i do. Oct 30 05 07:43 pm Link My signature style is that I try to get my models to take their shirts off; then I photograph their b(0)(o)bies. GWC! Oct 30 05 07:46 pm Link I am always striving for diversity, not always successful. Sometimes no matter what I do I feel like all my images look alike, maybe that's what a style is you try to change it up but it still comes out looking like your stuff. I can't wait to be consistent enough to develop a style! I'm still just too ecstatic when something comes out decently. Oct 31 05 12:17 am Link Benny wrote: take a look and comment what u think ? Oct 31 05 10:26 am Link I sold my style for a Coke and a smile. Oct 31 05 10:41 am Link My "style" varies. I like high-key beauty but have been known to get quite "gutter" when needed. I like to think of my work as being elegantly trashy... to trashily elegant... who knows? Oct 31 05 03:28 pm Link Ariette wrote: I don't try to get my models naked or bug them for dates. Even when I might want to. Oct 31 05 03:36 pm Link I love working with saris and long, sheer flowing drapery or dresses, that is totally *my* thing! Oct 31 05 04:51 pm Link DigitalCMH wrote: LOL. Funny Oct 31 05 05:30 pm Link Since I got past copying what everyone else was doing I have had three signature styles: 1) Grainy night color editorial fashion photographs (4 years worth). Then; 2) Formally composed, high-contrast B&W fetish/bondage pix (3 years or so). Now; 3) Intimate, sexual, tightly cropped B&W erotica, done under very low light in medium format. Each of those are recognized as D. Brian Nelson photography by a pretty big bunch of folks, and especially in the first case there have been a lot of shooters who have flattered me by imitation. -Don Oct 31 05 06:17 pm Link bump.
