Bad fashion cliches
Now, in band photography, we have a rule about not shooting in front of brick walls, or the dreaded "railroad tracks" shots that have become so cliche in that field. What are the overdone fashion cliches that should be avoided? Jan 18 07 02:22 pm Link girl with sword is always overdone... Jan 18 07 02:27 pm Link Retro Photo wrote: Is it actually a "rule" or just considered a "faux pas"? Jan 18 07 02:30 pm Link Photographers using female models. Jan 18 07 02:32 pm Link Marie Kym wrote: Those aren't really fashion shots Jan 18 07 02:34 pm Link When I think fashion I think clothing that should be avoided. Not locations. Clothing that should be avoided at all times: high waisted jeans or pants. I don't care how good your figure is. These are trashy. They were in 1989 and they still are today. Jan 18 07 02:34 pm Link not that it qualifies as fashion, but: BELTS ARE NOT BRAS. Furthermore, YOUR BOOBS SHOULD NOT HANG OUT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR BIKINI TOP. AVOID CONSPICUOUS LABELS...DO NOT SHOOT IN SOME FAKE BURBERRY CRAP. USE 80'S REFERENCES SPARINGLY. Jan 18 07 02:34 pm Link Damn I wanted to say BELTS ARE NOT BRAS Crap I missed it! and the boob out the bottom of the shirt is pretty much 70's poster porn. Jan 18 07 02:37 pm Link It maybe just me but I'm getting a bit tired of the distorted shots from a slightly to very wide angle lens fashion photos. But really it is probably just me. Bill http://www.pbase.com/slowpokebill Jan 18 07 03:00 pm Link I'm getting tired of seeing models holding up an empty picture frame and acting like their coming out of it or whatever they do Jan 18 07 03:41 pm Link Kismet Design wrote: Okay, maybe not a rule, but it could get you on rockandrollconfidential.com Jan 18 07 04:25 pm Link Bill Bates wrote: I suspect that was borne out of too many photographers using their living rooms for studios. Jan 18 07 04:40 pm Link how about a black and white image with either the lips or eyes in spot color. no offense to those out there that have that in their portfolio. snicker snicker Jan 18 07 04:41 pm Link karennn wrote: These jeans regardless of how hot you are, how incredible your figure is, etc. give the illusion of a long wide ass and practically unavoidable cameltoe. Jan 18 07 05:08 pm Link I don't know how can a fashion shot be a cliche, I don't see any. Fashion assumes something almost newly edgy, fresh. So if there is a cliche that must be a glamour shot or something else... Jan 18 07 06:01 pm Link How about close up shots flower petals or feathers on models' eyes and matching eye shadow. Jan 18 07 07:08 pm Link Dan Howell wrote: Yeah, feathers and flowers are starting to become cliches. Good one! Jan 18 07 07:10 pm Link I'm doing a shoot in the near future of a blonde woman with super huge implants taking a bubble bath on the railroad tracks. Thinking about converting it to black and white and just leaving her lips in color. That wouldn't be too much of a cliche, would it? Evan Jan 18 07 07:15 pm Link sunglasses on the lower bridge of the nose so that the eyes are peeking out. Jan 18 07 07:17 pm Link I still don't think there is such a thing as a fashion cliche, fashion has to be "trendy", so it's like the opposite. Once it is a cliche it stops being fashion. Jan 18 07 07:27 pm Link Now there are some cliche poses, but the clothes is really what takes you attention and makes each photo even with the same pose look different. There is no cliche's but there are some "trendy" looks (I THINK) Jan 18 07 07:29 pm Link On a serious note: Yep, most things have been done to some extent and in some manner already. However, I keep running across incredible images that are thematically cliched but they are done so well they rise above the mediocre and played out. Maybe the quality of the work is a key criteria in what is a cliche and what is not. It's something to think about. However, if you read the thread you may have seen that I corrected several people for naming things that definitely aren't used in fashion. Jan 18 07 07:34 pm Link |
