Beyond Discouraged Have you ever hit that point when you just feel like giving it all up? Canât stand to look at one more image? Hate everything your shooting? Jan 17 07 10:24 pm Link Yeah. I've hit the point. Shoot some more. Focus a little harder. Look again. You'll get it! Jan 17 07 10:27 pm Link Yep, so relax and go back to having fun. Go shoot some editorial stuff. Your great at that and it has to be more fun for you. Jan 17 07 10:39 pm Link Your Next Shoot wrote: hahahahahaha. Jan 17 07 10:40 pm Link Every damn day... Jan 17 07 10:42 pm Link I'm there. Everything I shoot is shit. Hate it. Not even slightly motivated to shoot. Bored. Jan 17 07 10:45 pm Link of course....but then you remember why you're doing it and that a 9-5 aint for you....so you get out there and come up with something great! Shoot something new that you've been wanting to try or brush up on something you've been wanting to learn! Jan 17 07 10:49 pm Link I felt like you do for quite a while. I just put the camera away, it did not interest me. I've decided to start working on images I've already shot in Photoshop, Painter and Illustrator. I want to be re-invented and only I can do this. I read your post, went shopping and came back. At the grocery store I saw at least two radiant young ladies who had been so blessed by nature that I actually felt the desire to make images with them (Bellingham is a college town). I did not say anything, had no cards with me nor the spirit to engage. But it gives me hope that the embers of passion may spring forth into a blaze of creativity as time goes on. In the meantime, I have been playing my guitar, that fire burns bright. Jan 17 07 11:58 pm Link Yah, I get moody. I blame it on my hormones. I shoot myself out of my funks. Jan 18 07 12:05 am Link go get drunk/whatever, and take a camera with you. see what happens, be reasonably careful while you do it. rich Jan 18 07 01:55 am Link Patrick Walberg wrote: I shoot crappy non sexy banal junk all of the time (and I hate it!) but, Jan 18 07 02:02 am Link Colegrove Photography wrote: yes indeed i have, then i hit myself around the head picked up my dslr and went out and got inspired again, its there its just hard to find sometimes. Then I get crazy and take the best pictures. Jan 18 07 09:58 am Link I get that way. What I do is I take a break. I relax. I withdraw from the world of photography and modeling and do something else. Usually, give a week or so, I get inspired again. Jan 18 07 10:56 am Link Colegrove Photography wrote: keep shooting. and try something different. I once touched my face after holding the bottle (big mistake) Jan 18 07 11:41 am Link That's going to happen to everyone no matter what field you are in. And in a creative field it just shows up a little more, but its something that can be moved past. Just think off how many successful photographers and creative people there are and think, "they didn't do it by luck, so I have a chance too." Jan 18 07 11:44 am Link I just came back from a few weeks in vegas. It can help.... This happens to everyone who grows in their art, everyone. It's natural, and it sucks and it's painful. It's like when a baby is teething, it hurts and they cry a lot but at the end of the process they have something they didn't have before. A key element to artistic growth is introspection. Combined with an eye (or ear depending on the medium) which which gets more critical as you experience grows, this leads us to see the flaws in our work, or simply the mediocrity in it. Those who do not go through this are stunted in their growth, for there is no reason for them to soldier onward towards the next plateau. Others have given good exercises. Ultimately you will find what works for you, but the method is relativity unimportant. What is important is that you are constantly searching both the world around you and the world within you. Remember it's not about the destination, but about the journey. Best of luck, Matt Jan 18 07 11:47 am Link |
