it is a different world today than it was when you were young.   More than likely the model would be charged, and the minor sent to a foster home.

Isn't it great to be an american.

a buddy of mine teaches photography at the local college and the weekend classes have high school kids sprinkled in.. since they all look the same to me (high school seniors and second year college kids) I have been asked to critique some portfolios by his students only to find nude self portraits.. mainly by the high school girls..

Some of them have had the college aged kids pose nude for them in their studio class.. in that environment no one asks anyone elses age, they just assume if they are all in the same class they must all be out of highschool or at least legal..

Those opportunities werent available when I was in high school or I would have been in honors classes just to be at the college.. LOL

It was discussed in depth about 6 months ago when a 16 y/o photographer was contemplating shooting some nudes.

I'm sure it will not surprise you to hear that some people thought it was fine and some people were certin that the model would go to jail and the photographer would be sent to Juvie.

well, times have changed, alot. no longer can you do the mrs. robinson thing. nowadays, she'd get in big trouble.

what's interesting is..I wonder how and when did these laws pass? i know during old days in the south, it was common for a older man to marry a minor. loretta lynn was married at I think 13. the guy was way older than her. in his 20's.

Chuck Norris's mom was a minor when his pappy married her.

Lots of discussion,
I'm not fully sure of the topic, but if you mean minors-as photographers, then I don't see much of a problem. Actually, they do it all the time! I also work in a photo studio, and most of the nudes are from minors. Now, I really don't think its appropriate for adults to photographed nude by minors. As stated above-contributing to the delinquency of a minor.  Now to brach this out a bit, It seems that society would accept a woman posing for a male photographer, than a man posing for a FEMALE photographer. Shouldn't they be equally abhorred?

hmm interesting thought. If I were a 17 year old photog shooting an 18 year old model nude I doubt anything would have been said... anywhere... people are laughed at when the sexual accuzations are switched to male minor/female legal rather than a legal male to minor female... so where's the real prejudice...

This Mrs. didn't (in fact she's married to him; he was 17 and I was 30 and no I never made a habit of young flesh until him and haven't since and it was legal at the time of our consummation). I know I'll get bashed for this but there are sites out there that can be your friend when you find out the young man you just met who thought you only a few years older than himself lies in order to not have you just walk away.

I shot a few (they were legal age) when I was still a minor, they were like fake playboy style, I had watched a Ken Marcus Glamour Lighting Video and thought I was the sh*t !!!!  They were great or so I thought at the time.  I would be afraid to see them now LOL

When I was that age, I had a lot of girls wanting to get naked for other reasons.  But, I had good old Dad's 35mm with me some of the time ... only I couldn't afford more than a roll of film
every month or so. Some of the beach shots were great!  But then I turned 18 and my shots started to look worse; seems to have continued every year I shot wink

Now when I shoot an 18 nude, I'm more interested in lights, composition, hair, and such than looking at her ... she's a subject to be make look beautiful ... I truly am not sexually attracked to them at all (I just think how I'd probably blow my brains out if I ever was snowed into a cabin for a week or so and had to try to maintain a conversation is someone that age for that long.)

I have a cousin who was in a nude drawing class at a community college when he was underaged and in high school.  His parents just had to sign a consent form.

I think this is a little silly.I took some figure drawing classes and drew naked people. My parents just signed a release. Also if there is a legal consent age for minors having sex with adults I highly doubt you'd get in trouble at all for taking nudie pictures if you were underaged.I would say I'm almost 100% ositive  that they wouldn't get in trouble especially not the minor. If there was going to be trouble they would mostlikely consider the minor a victim.

As written in most states, I don't think the law specifies gender in relation to the role played in this situation.

Yes, but has no legal right to any commercial use(s) of resulting images as a minor cannot legally be held to any contract.  An appropraite parent/guardian would need to sign any contract on behalf of the minor.

I borrowed my stepmother's camrea when I was 15 to shoot nude photos of my brother's 16 yr old girlfriend. I even took them to the one hour lab at the mall to have them developed. Luckily they were "artsy" enough to not be questioned. And by artsy I mean completely blurry and out of focus;)

As long as the youngest of the 2 (the photographer or the model) is 16 and the older person is within 4 years of the first persons age, then everything is legal. BUT, with someone older than that it can be considered indecent exposure I think (like when someone shows themselves nude to you).....

Actually, when it comes to sexual experiences it does lol. If both parties are between 12-16 then the boy is charged. If the boy is under 12 and the girl is between 12-16 she is charged. If one is 16-18 and the 2nd party is more than 4 years older than the older party is charged. If both are under 12 then the boy is charged smile

We had a big discussion in a American Government and Politics class like 2 years ago  smile

Some things to consider:

Nude pictures of the 19-year-old are not a problem in themselves (she's an adult).

In most states it is legal for a 17 and 19-year-old to have sex (many states have an age of consent of 16 or 17).

Seeing other people nude is not a crime - think of locker rooms at fitness clubs, gym class, etc.

17-year-olds can go to R-rated movies (per the Motion Picture Association of America film rating system) and see some nudity.

I've never heard of a 17-year-old going to to jail because they were in possesion of a Playboy, Hustler, or adult video.

I don't think this situation would be an issue where I live - in Minneapolis.

Probably happens a lot more than is discussed; how often do models ask for ID from their photographers and check DOB?

Debatable. If the model is an adult, and signed a release, it's binding on the model, ceterus paribus.

we arent talking about sex...

when you say everything is legal...what does that mean..are there laws governing being in the same room with a naked person?...what about nudist colonies..young with the old...we have them all over here in tampa...?????

the point (to me anyways) is what you - or most of the people here- would do, it's what others do..

there's no shortage of scumbags, there's also no shortage of people like john ashcroft..

someday someone like ashcroft will use porn and community standards to limit art, then freedom of speech, then they will start to include newspapers..

to me the point is, what picture of a person who is under the age of 18 could you take that is so artisticaly important?

if there isnt then why add to the 'problem', hypocritical as the 'problem' might be

We have a high school for gifted and advanced students here in Richmond, VA and for years, students in the arts would take classes at one of the local universities in preparation for moving on to college.  A few years ago a 16 year old girl from the high school took a college life drawing class and her mother and father raised hell with the university, threatening legal action for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.  From that point on, the university banned minors not enrolled full time in the school of the arts.

Never said or implied that you did. My point was a answer to a question that the io.p. was asking. I used the Mrs. Robinson because back during those days, there were no laws where a young man/minor and a women of age didn't have any rules or laws that were broken.

My overall point was, what and how did these laws changed? I asked this because it was common for a minor to get married to a man of age.
