Used to be that the Pirelli Clander represented the cutting edge of high glamour photography  ...featuring at times the top fashion models and top photographers

But this latest offering is really quite lukewarm ....

Yeah, 50-50... but thanks for the link! As far as a long-term batting average goes, Pirelli is still on the A list. No worries. I have that compilation book of the calendars. Love that Peter Lindbergh. I've never cared for the costumey stuff, paint, hats, etc. I just like girls!!

I really don't mind the "in bed with Sophia Loren and P. Cruz and Naomi Watts' feel, but Hillary Swank?  Please!
Weber should have had this assignment.

If Bruce Weber had the assignment, you'd be looking at boys' butts instead of Sophia Loren, P. Cruz and Naomi Watts.

I'll give them credit for all of the calendars they have done in the past, and for their efforts to keep it from getting stale-

The were going for low-key celebrity glamour this year, and they accomplished it effectively.

LOL!  True, but even that would be better than this year's calendar.  I'm not getting this one at all.

imo the calendar clearly "jumped the shark" the year Annie Leibowitz shot it.

it hasn't really been the same since.

Not really sure where they were headed with this one. The past calendars for the most part have always been a blend of glamour and shock value. This one looks like it was completely shot in a cheap motel using a bare bulb.

Is that anything like "spanked the monkey"?

Agreed.  It looks like they didn't even try to show these ladies' splendid "racks"!

I'm just an unfrozen caveman photographer, and your technology and flashy lifestyles frighten and confuse me, but other than the "Lou Doillon" pictures (whoever the hell that is) I like the look. In fact, it looks like something I would have liked to shoot. And man-o-schevitz! Naomi Watts can roll around in my cheap motel ANY day.

yup, I agree. It's not awful by any means but I think they have done better in previous calendars. Bring back 2004, at least they were a bit more daring!

I think the one Avedon did with Christy and Naomi was the best. I still have it someplace up in the attic...

They asked me 2 do it but I was busy unfortunately. sad I had a totally killer concept, too. I was gonna do the whole calendar as a series of jell-o wrestling pictures. Each month would be a different supermodel in a different color of jell-o, based on the season. So, like, autumn was gonna be orange jell-o with oak leaves in it and winter was gonna be like blue jell-o and so on. It would have been totally kickass except I was scheduled to be shooting a nude TFP with britney that week and my assistant fell in and we had to get a crane to get him out and by the time it was all over the mood was ruined.

I like it, crisp realistic, gimick free photography.

I know they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but Hillary Swank happens to have a killer body and although you can't see them in these photos, some of the greatests boobs of all time.
Standing naked side by side, Cruz would look like a 12 year old girl next to Swank.

Jay I appreciate the opinion, but clearly you might want to educate yourself a bit on Bruce's work.  Yes he likes the boys and speedos and the big dogs, but his women are fierce (Sorry for the Tyra-ism).
Go buy his first book "O RIO"

Nadja Auermann in the icicle was nice!~

My fave was the Olympians series from whatever year that was.  1902?
2004 was too busy and over photoshopped.

I loved herb ritts pirelli calendar.   His women looked edible, as good as or better than if a hot blooded hooters infatuated het boy had shot it.   The same with webers work.   It's about the photographer.

For Pirelli - Does the photographer have complete aritistic control or does he ahve to follow some "editors "vision ?

I'm new to seeing this calendar.  Can't say I'd complain if I'd taken any of those photos, though.

The big 40 Years book is fantastic. Maybe they'll get it back next year.
