Hi MM!

I wanted to know how you could tell if a photographer is decent, respectful, and legit, or if the photographer has ulterior motives in mind that could end up being an unsafe situation? What types of characteristics are the slimy types? Any experiences models with any non-legit photographers? Thanks

Check him out. Check his references. Look at the quality of his work.

Trust your instincts.

When this thread is completed, we'll start a thread on how us photographers can spot a flaky model...

Would you give the contact information of people who might give you a bad review or would you only give the contact information of the people who like you?

I find for myself the best way is through direct and lots of phone contact, this gives me a sense of who the person is. Their work ethic, honesty etc. But there really is no foolproof way to tell when dealing with people on the internet. But your instincts are your best first line of defense I think.

Definitly ure 6th sense/ instincts is best- bec The ONE moron i had to deal with had references up the wazoo and he was the only one who needed his head bashed in

While amateurs w no references have been the sweetest most respectful ones Ive worked with - so its a case by case basis - no tried and sure definite way that works  on each

good luk

okay im done

I want to know how I can spot a thief...

...or a cheater

...or a hijacker

or a murderer.

I want to spot a dishonest mechanic that tells me I need brake shoes when I really don't...

Most of all, I want to learn how to spot someone that starts a thread about something that we have discussed ad nauseum for months...

Hard to say, but always check his references, have a sit down before the shoot and get a feel for his demeanor. But most importantly, and this is something every model should consider, does his work help enhance your look.

Personally, I don't get into the whole "escort/bodyguard" thing. If you carry yourself with confidence, control and assurance, you'll be alright. If you're not comfortable with something, say so in a confident way, it shows you won't be pressured or bullied into anything.

Now some pretty good and great photographers can have egos and be assholes, as a model you have to have thick skin, just shake it off, don't take it personal and get the results you're trying to achieve. Not everybody will kiss ass and fall all over you like the dudes in the street will, some will even feel you're beneath them and their standards. Again nothing you should really take personal, just part of being a model in the real world.

If you meet with him prior to a shoot and he is already feeling himself, he might be slimy.
