I've seen a few people requesting to do "Anime" themed photo shoots. I know what Anime is, but what qualities or traits of Anime are people looking to reproduce in photo shoots? Can anyone shed some light for me or show an example?

Even though I'm not a big fan of Anime, I'd like to see what the final product looks like. Sounds interesting...

Bondo,

There are anime-friendly models who will probably chime in soon but here are a few examples from me.

Gothic Lolitas  (NOT the same thing as the one from that book by Nabokov...that would be "lolicon").  I know, TMI.  Sorry.

As for an anime themed shoot, you should see a cosplay(costume play) session at an anime convention to get some ideas.  Many anime characters have extensive backstories that could be used in shaping a photo session.  I guess you could check anime con sites for photo examples, but you'd miss out on the con experience.

Hope that this was useful.

Bondo,

Check out anime on Cartoon Network, etc, as well.  In addition to the "classics" like Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon there are the newer series like "Naruto" and "Bleach."  Word of warning, soap operas have nothing on the plots and sub-plots in some of the series.  So don't be discouraged if you can't pick up the story lines at your first sitting.

I think that you'll find anime great fun to photograph.

Here is a shoot I did which is manga (which means comic) based:

The outfits and the various set themes were pulled from the comics and thus, provided the inspiration.

One of these days, someone will do Sephiroth justice. Even if I have to do it myself, dammit.
