Friends (9)About Me
Greetings all. I want to share something that helped me find the root of my personal philosophy about photography. It is a quote from a modern philosopher that took me years to warm up to, until I had looked through my lens enough times to realize just how true it really was:
“To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.” – Susan Sontag A photographer has a responsibility to respect its subject, and to lift it up, to save it from drowning in the endless sea of imagery we are bombarded with on a perpetual basis. It is not enough to simply apply a set of technical considerations to an image; rather it must be crafted with a greater motivation and accountability in mind at the time the shutter opens. This is the philosophy I have come to incorporate in my imagery. If my work doesn’t hold a viewer and force them to participate in the experience of the subject, then I have failed. My name is Benjamin Fry and I am a professional photographer that had been working in the greater Seattle area and I have now returned to the Front Range. Before becoming a photographer, I spent more than a decade in the military, as a fully certified Air Traffic Controller. This ended with an injury in Afghanistan. As I looked for a way to adjust to a new life and deal with traumas of the past I soon discovered that photography provided me with a venue to reconnect to the world in a positive way. It has become more than a passion for me; it has become the very thread by which I am sewing my soul back together again. For me, photography is life. This is the level of commitment I will bring to any shoot. I have been trained by the nations oldest and largest photography school: the New York Institute of Photography. I have earned my BFA in Photography from the Art Institute of Seattle. I have additionally completed an AAS in Video Production as well (Think of it is a really big minor). I am looking forward to providing you with quality photography and cinematography services! Verified Credits (1)Worked with Emberlight Imagery? Share your experience and become verified! He played music that worked with the theme and was always willing to help with poses. It was like being around a friend who had a camera. I was always comfortable and he was very polite. I cannot wait to work with him again!" Read less
