About Me

Joseph Singh is an emerging New York based fashion designer known for celebrating dark and mysterious themes. Joseph is fascinated by the interaction between people and their surroundings, body versus space, the order and arrangement of things around him and the contrast of opposite ideas. With fabric as a starting point, his unique design aesthetics are intended to invoke raw emotion and signify the importance of living your best life now. Joseph’s designs embody complexity in the form of extensive fabric treatments and manipulation. His techniques consistently redefine established methods while setting the standard for new approaches. He frequently merges garments with nontraditional fabric pairings and utilizes unique textures to create beautiful and unexpected effects. His designs typically feature minimal color contrasts and schemes. Joseph’s work has been featured in three major publications, various websites and blogs, will be featured on display at Parsons Paris during Paris Fashion Week and is a finalist in this year’s Made for Peroni Young Designers Awards.

Originally born and raised in San Francisco, CA, Joseph realized his true passion for fashion design while studying biological sciences at San Francisco State University (SFSU). In 2007, he enrolled at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in San Francisco and over the course of the following two years, he completed his bachelor’s degree in marketing at SFSU and associate’s degree at FIDM. During his time at FIDM, Joseph became involved in “Discarded to Divine” – a charitable event which showcases the talents of aspiring and professional designers. Joseph transformed discarded, donated clothing into unique and original couture and his creation received the highest winning bid. This event served as personal validation for his talent and perceived success as a fashion designer. Upon graduation, Joseph served as an apprentice at several local fashion houses for one year before enrolling at prestigious art and design university, Parsons.

In 2010, Joseph moved to New York to further his pursuits in fashion design and realize his full potential at Parsons. While attending Parsons, Joseph’s career began as an intern with Donna Karan. Joseph’s work at Parsons significantly defined and honed the precise detail and styling he possesses today and while at Parsons, Joseph received the

•2012 CFDA National Scholarship Award, Honorable Mention;
•Herbert Gallen Scholarship for scholastic excellence; and
•Finalist in the Parsons x Kering Empowering Imagination 2013 competition.
•GenArt Fresh Faces in Fashion 2013 - LAFW

This resulted in a featured profile on Style.com, but the culminating experience and finale to his time at Parsons was when he was honored as a nominee for the Parsons Designer of the Year in Womenswear.

Joseph graduated top of his class with a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design and currently works under the direction of Olivier Theyskens at Theyskens Theory.
