I recall reading that series was put together as composites with multiple buckets of milk being thrown.

They came out looking great though.

But yeah, not easy.  It takes several splashes to get just the right effect for ONE area, then a lot of post work blending them all together.   It also demands strobes that can freeze movement using very short flash durations.
