If you "love the art of it", then you should model for some painters, or an art class (it doesn't have to be nude modeling either). There are plenty of portrait painters and portrait painting classes/workshops in need of models. Check your local colleges and art communities.
It usually does not pay as well as photography modeling, but who knows, you might end up in an art museum some day.
I would love to paint your portrait if we lived closer!
