Membership Requirements

Model Mayhem Membership Rules and Requirements

Welcome to Model Mayhem! We are excited that you’ve decided to join the largest and most active community of people interested in the modeling industry on the internet. However, we do have a handful of membership rules and requirements that must be adhered to and met in order for you to become a member.

Please check out the following so that you give your application its best chance for success:

Membership Rules

These rules are cited in our Site Rules and are reiterated here for your convenience.

Account Ownership

Because we are a networking site for real-life work between individual artists, we expect everyone who registers a Model Mayhem member profile to be who they say they are. Member accounts are intended for personal, individual artist use only.

We do not tolerate dishonest account ownership or dishonest account maintenance. The following behaviors are included in dishonest account ownership, but are not limited to:

  • Creating an account for someone else
  • Allowing anyone but the person whose work or face is represented to login or access an account
    • This includes assistants, managers, or agents.
    • Exceptions spouses and/or life-partners who work as a photography team and identical twins with model profiles.
  • Pretending to be someone else and/or maintaining a fake profile

We may request proof of identity if there are any questions regarding account ownership to ensure the proper account owner is in control of the account.

We do not allow profiles to be set up or managed by people other than the profile owner. This means profiles are not to be shared, group, or joint profiles. Passwords and login information should always be kept private.

Profiles

  • Member profiles are intended for individual artists under our approved categories, not for companies, groups, teams of individuals or persons who qualify more for a Talent Recruiter account. Additionally, profiles are only extended to members to be used in the capacity to which they were approved.
    • Artists whose business is a reflection of their individual artistry are permitted to utilize their account with their business name.
    • Spouses and/or life-partners who work as a photography team and identical twins with model profiles are permitted to share a profile.
  • Member profiles are not to be used on behalf of third parties, or on behalf of businesses where a member works outside the capacity for which their profiles were approved.
    • Artists whose work with businesses is the same as their approved membership are permitted to network, as long as the role within the business is clearly stated.
    • For example, this means if you are a photographer contracted with a company to take promotional photos, you are welcome to use your profile to network for that business’ project. If you are a model acting as a model for a company’s advertising campaign, you are welcome to use your profile to network for that business’ project.
    • All other third party or business uses of a profile are strictly prohibited and may result in profile suspension.
  • In order to maintain a member profile, you must meet our membership requirements at all times: at least 4 visible images pertaining to your membership type and a biography.
  • Your profile should only display work you contributed to in your profile’s member category.
    • For example, this means if you are listed as a model, you should only be showing images of you as a model. If you are a photographer, you should only upload images you shot as a photographer.
    • If you would like to show off other artistic skills, you are welcome to open a new profile!
  • You must be at least 18 years old and have the correct birthday listed.
    • Validation of age may be required.

Member Account versus Talent Recruiter Account

We currently offer two different account types on Model Mayhem for those interested in networking here.

Member Accounts

Member accounts are intended for individual artists looking to connect with other members to work with and collaborate on projects together, and must be approved before going live. Member accounts provide artists with a portfolio to showcase their individual work and the ability to utilize private messages, post free casting calls, and otherwise become a full-fledged member of the community.

This profile type is not available to teams, groups, or persons who fall within the requirements for a Talent Recruiter membership type. You must clearly fit into a membership type to be approved into a member account. If you do not fit into a member account, or would clearly fit better into a Talent Recruiter profile,  your profile will be denied and you will be directed to create a Talent Recruiter account.

Please see our FAQs about Member Accounts for more information.

Member Types:

  • Models
  • Photographers
  • Filmmakers
  • Retouchers
  • Digital Artists
  • Hair Stylists
  • Makeup Artists
  • Wardrobe Stylists
  • Clothing Designers
  • Artists/Painters
  • Body Painters

Talent Recruiter Accounts

Talent Recruiter accounts are primarily for agents, companies or businesses, photographers and filmmakers looking to shoot on behalf of third-party businesses, groups or teams of persons, or any other person not listed on our Member Account section seeking to connect with the approved members on Model Mayhem for projects or work being offered. These accounts are not approved or vetted in any way before going live. If you do not fit within an individual member category, please choose the closest Talent Recruiter category that fits you.

Talent Recruiter accounts provide recruiters with the ability to post Sponsored Casting Calls and to proactively reach out to approved members.

Please see our FAQs about Talent Recruiter Accounts for more information on how Talent Recruiter accounts operate.

Automatic Ejection Policy

We try and maintain a safe network for all of our members, which means there are several things that will result in the immediate ejection of a profile here on Model Mayhem. Please note that these ejections can occur without notice or warning, and include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Networking for sexual, pornographic, or imminently dangerous content of any kind
  • Copyright violations
  • Opening or maintaining a profile that represents someone else
  • Opening or maintaining someone else’s profile

General Requirements

Your Work Must Be Yours

We do not want to see your inspirations – we want to see your work showing whatever it is you have selected to do! If you are a model, your images should show us yourself modeling. If you are a photographer, your images should be images you’ve taken. If you are a makeup artist or clothing designer, your images should show your handiwork. We want to see what you have done as an artist.

About Me

You are asked to provide a short biography in your About Me section as part of your application. Please provide details about your experience, goals, reasons for being on Model Mayhem, or any other relevant information. Please err on the side of providing more info rather than less. Also, don’t make it sound like a personal ad.

Provide (at least) 4 Different Photos

At least four different photos are required for all accounts. No duplicates, re-crops, or manipulations of the same image. Members are expected to maintain a minimum of four relevant photos at all times. Images must not contain any Prohibited Image Elements.

Quality Images Required

We want quality images here. Your photos must be judged to be of sufficient quality. This means that you should not submit cell phone shots, webcam shots, screenshots, mirror shots, arm’s-length self-portraits, personal snapshots, etc; images that are poorly exposed, too grainy, have too much compression, etc.

Image Requirements

Any images uploaded to Model Mayhem should follow these guidelines:

  • Photo Size, in pixels:
    • No less than 200 wide and 300 high
    • No more than 16 million total pixels (eg, 4,000 wide by 4,000 high)
  • File Size, in kb:
    • No less than 7kb
    • No more than 1500kb
  • File Type:
    • We can only accept JPG or PNG filetypes.
    • If you have a RAW or GIF or some other image type, you will need to change it in an image editor first.

Note: Photos wider than 1000px will automatically be resized, which will also strip EXIF and color space info.

Specific Requirements

The requirements for each membership type vary depending on who is applying. Please ensure you follow the guidelines set for your chosen membership type.

Models

Show Us Your Face

Your portfolio must show your face clearly. Some headless nudes or whatever are cool, but we need to know what you look like.

Show Us All of You

Please include at least 1 full length body shot.

No Selfies

Seriously. No selfies.

Photographers

Show Us A Model

Photographers must have at least 4 different photos specifically of adult human models “modeling” for the camera. Snapshots, candid photos, children, cars, landscapes, animals, etc do not count. Please show us your best work – we need to see examples of your photos in relation to adults “modeling”.

Show Us Variety

Please provide at least 2 different models or 2 different locations. Stock-style white-sheet or hotel wall photos are ok, but try and show us something more.

Filmmakers

Show Us Your Experience

In your biography, please include links that show your filmmaker experience – the more you have, the better. We’re looking for IMDb pages, official credits, and at least one link to a video or trailer.

Show Us Your Work

In your portfolio, include at least 2 stills from your films, and 2 other images related to your filmmaking – behind the scenes images and promotional material may be posted with permission from the copyright holder. Be sure to caption them clearly: production title, date, your production role(s), etc. Your stills should include at least 2 different models or 2 different locations.

Retouchers

Clearly Show Your Skills

You need to show at least some skill in retouching photos of models. Simply running a Photoshop filter on a photo does not qualify. We don’t expect everyone to be an expert, but at least demonstrate some basic skills with the images you submit. It would be helpful if at least one of your images was a before and after comparison to show just how you retouched the image.

Permissions for Your Portfolio

Please be sure you have explicit permission from all copyright holder(s) to display any raw, retouched, or otherwise edited images in your portfolio. You will need to properly credit the photographers who shot your images once you have uploaded them.

Digital Artists

Clearly Show Your Skills

You need to show at least some skill in creating digital manipulations/composites. We don’t expect everyone to be a high-end artist, but at least demonstrate some basic skills with the images you create.

Your Work Must Be Yours

Your digital artwork must be your own original creations (no copies of others’ work) and include human models. Please note that Model Mayhem does not allow the use of any other copyrighted/trademarked content without prior and explicit permission from the copyright/trademark owner(s).

Hair Stylists, Makeup Artists, Wardrobe Stylists

Show Us 2 Different Models

You need to provide photos of at least 2 different models. You are welcome to submit selfies, but you may be asked to add more images of your looks on models.

Show Us Variety

Please provide at least 4 different looks rather than 4 photos of the same look.

Clothing Designers

Show 2 Finished Designs

You must supply photos of at least 2 finished designs being worn by models. Designs on mannequins do not count!

Some Sketches Are OK

You may provide sketches or illustrations of unproduced designs if they exhibit a reasonable level of skill and training, both in quality of the design and the sketch itself.

More Than Just a T-Shirt

Printed graphics/designs on pre-made clothing will not be accepted. All designs must be entirely original.

Artists or Painters

Use Models

Please focus your submissions on art that utilizes models (human) rather than just landscapes, etc.

Original Only

Artwork must be original only. No copies of existing artwork.

Bodypainters

Models Only Please

Your work should show your body painting skills on models.

Show Us Variety

Please provide at least 4 different looks rather than 4 photos of the same look.
