Self described as a "freeman and a slave, patrician of ideas and plebeian of all that is normal,  guildmaster and journeyman, in a word,  oppressor and oppressed, he has stood in constant opposition to one another, carried on an uninterrupted, now hidden, now open fight, that each time has ended, either in the revolutionary reconstitution of his own ideas at large, or in the common ruin of the contending ideas.”  He is what you see and never what you get.
