About Me

Artist/photographer Bob Worthy's depictions of life and the figure allow viewers the opportunity to identify with broader notions of time and existence.  His alternative processes photographic pieces and mixed-media art works are figurative masterpieces of shape and space that beautify an intimate subject matter, the unclothed human form singularly and in pairs. Often employing a dramatic use of negative compositional space Worthy presents the body as pure form, thus transcending the personal identity of his subjects. The body is abstracted and manipulated through the employment of unexpected points of view, extreme close-up and the intertwining of more than one figure.

I shoot digital in available light. My photographs are only used to make my mixed-media artwork and are not exhibited or sold as themselves.    Often travel to the metro DC and Richmond, VA areas for TFCD photo shoots.  I'm an artist and not a commercial photographer, but am happy to collaborate with models at all levels of experience, from novice to professional. All models must sign a Model Release before beginning a shoot with me; and they must confirm that they are 18 years of age.  Contact me for more information.  Copyright for all the images in this profile belongs exclusively to Bob Worthy.

Juror’s Comments:
First Prize: Silver Lake (Cold Wax) by Bob Worthy and Frozen Horizon I and II –
All three works are stark, almost menacing in a lack of warmth, images which could illustrate Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road”.  Silver Lake may hide over the next hill in a frozen landscape; this is place where nature still has not been tamed, there no impending commercial development and while there is a horizon which promises something beyond it we are prisoner to the scene before us.  The hints of the red ground, the slight grayed wash clouds misting over the lake, this white sky pocketed plaster with small holes and textured washes creating a physical poetry of emptiness and sadness.

All three of my entries were selected by the juror for inclusion in the September/November juried "All Media" exhibit at the Crossroads Art Center in Richmond, VA.  http://www.crossroadsartcenter.com/index.html

The exhibit runs through the end of May 2015; http://www.fccagallery.org

Juror's comments: A mixed media piece entitled, "Dragonfly Waltz #42" by Bob Worthy was selected for third place because of its simple elegance and compelling use of color and photo transfer. The artist's has a skillful control over the mixed media combined in the purposeful composition. The apt use of rectangular shapes reminds the viewer of piano keys while juxtaposed to the darting dragonfly images gives the piece balance and progression.

"Looking Backward" a one-person exhibit by Bob Worthy at The Wounded Bookshop, Fredericksburg, VA The exhibit runs from September 1-30, 2006. First Friday Reception: September 1st, 6-10 pm. The public is welcome! http://www.woundedbookshop.com

From a review of the "looking Backward" exhibit:

"Worthy's depictions of us at our most vulnerable "nude" are timeless. They often incorporate nature themes "a nude woman resting on a wild jumble of rocks, for instance. And while there's nothing pornographic about it, there is a simple beauty to both the subject and her setting that defines passion better than the most graphic modern concept of sensuality."  Read the entire review here: http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2006/082006/08312006/218092/index_html?page=1
