About Me

Photography is my outlet to the world. I am a skilled painter, but I prefer to work photographically, organizing my visions in light and pixels as a way of holding onto the ethereal, searching for hidden qualities, and understanding life better. I use my lens to ground myself in others, to turn my disconnectedness into substance, to love people, and to find pieces of myself. I express the unique normalcy of my human subjects. I always meld color and texture in a radiant way. I know that I share the same hopes and dreams, doubts, vulnerabilities, strengths, weaknesses and power of my women subjects. This sensibility is essential to my art. Mine is an art of reflection, self-analysis, and the dialectical interplay between psychology and aesthetics. I live in Greater Portland, a place I love. I have had group shows in Maine, New Hampshire, New York and online. My work has been showcased as the cover image of the May 2010 issue of Color magazine, and in an August 2010 Excellence Award Issue 4-page spread in Color Magazine. This has given me global recognition. Color Magazine also featured me in its May 2011 Issue #13, as the top winner with Silver, Bronze, and Merit Awards.

I consider fine art portrait photography to be the critical art form for this stage of history. Installation work and studio experiments are fleeting. I use the camera as a tool to frame moments in the fluid situations of making. The studio experiments and exhibitions pass and the images remain, transforming what was a familiar place into unfamiliar territory.
