About Me

I've taken pictures forever, dating back to the day I received my first Polaroid. And I've devoured art books, on both painting and photography, since I received my first library card that allowed me to check out books from the "adult" section of the stacks.

But I finally have reached the point in my life when I don't just want to look, or record personal moments. I want to create images, using the photographic process as a vehicle for collaborating with interesting people, exchanging ideas and energy and exploring our shared passion and creativity. I want to use my Nikon D100 to not just record moments but capture the intangible magic that infuses our transient lives. I want to seize on happy accidents and turn them into art.

Photography is a universal language. I want to join in the conversation.

As for my intentions and approach to models, this is from a recent email to a woman I plan on working with:

"My primary interests are 1) imaginative settings and implied narratives, and 2) personal expression and passion on the part of the model. I'd love to capture your expressions and personality as no one else has, without getting too crazy or arty-farty. I'm not really interested in creating commercial images per se, though I'm open to working with costumes, props, settings, etc. that you think might lead to some worthy additions to your portfolio...of course you're welcome to use anything we come up with gratis."

I have no problem paying models for their services, even newcomers, who are willing to take a chance on a relatively untried, but respectful, inventive, and open-eyed photographer with a heartfelt commitment to the process.
