Update - We have purchased a beautiful home in northern California and moved in late January 2012.  I do not plan on building a studio here.  Instead I will be focusing on landscape and wildlife photography.  I will continue to photograph beautiful models from time to time, but not in a studio.  I'll be doing location work.

To all of the models, MUA's, Hair Stylists, Clothing Stylists and Photographers I've worked with over the past 6 years, thank you.  It has been an amazing ride.  I've enjoyed working with you and I'm sure I'm going to miss my studio and working with so many really nice people.  I'll keep my Model Mayhem site and updated it form time to time.  You can also reach me via email at:  [email protected].  Thanks again for some great experiences.

Let me first thank you for taking the time to read my bio and look over my work.  My name is David and I'm a professional photographer located in northern California.  Photography is not just my profession, it's my passion.

From the coastline of northern California to the plains of East Africa I have sought out and photographed nature's beauty.  Over the past 6 years, my focus (pun intended) has been directed towards the beauty of the human form.  I can't think of anything in nature much more beautiful.  However, now that I'm living in the northern California woods I'll be getting back to my photographic roots shooting nature and wildlife.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to abandon my fashion, glamor and beauty photography, I will just incorporate them into my nature work, shooting on location.  So expect to see some changes in my portfolio.  No more studio work (The Barn is gone).  I will also continue to pursue my love of the silhouette.  I've included a little history regarding silhouette art below.

If you are interested in joining me for a shoot in the woods or on the coast, let me know.  I don't plan on doing a lot of model work but I will be doing some.

THE SILHOUETTE

Silhouette cutting hearkens back to early 17th century France, when silhouette artists were hired to entertain royalty with their free-hand cuttings of lords and ladies in all of their elaborate finery and hair-pieces.  Silhouettes are, in fact, named after the French Minister of Finance in 1759, Etienne de Silhouette.  Mr. Silhouette was exceedingly miserly and had brought despair to the French people through his unrelenting, unfair tax policies.  He spent much of his time perfecting his favorite new pastime, the art of cutting silhouettes.  Thus was born the name "Silhouette."

Silhouettes migrated into the rest of Europe and eventually became exceedingly popular in 18th century America, where they were employed as a way of capturing dignified portraits of American aristocrats, politicians, and common folk alike. 

Silhouettes are still popular today, although the number of silhouette artists has since decreased to about 15 in the entire country.  Even though the actual silhouettes remain greatly sought-after as wonderful and lasting encapsulations of people and events, artists are still rare.
