About Me

Inspired by artists such as John Singer Sargent, Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, Hans Bellmer, Marshall Arisman, Craig Marshall Smith and the like, the figurative and portraiture work of Douglas Raymond Seaton echoes a classic beauty transposed with turmoil.

“There is a sadness in beauty...and a beauty in sadness...and such is the realm in which my work resides.”

Working primarily in graphite, charcoal, and occasionally oil, the artist achieves a subtle chiaroscuro while maintaining an almost stark and barren negative space...further suggesting the isolation of beauty and sadness.  The artist has also found some inspiration in many contemporary lowbrow and street artists...but without trying to replicate said art.  Often, this influence gives way to splashes of color in organic designs, but without demeaning the content of the work itself.

Douglas Raymond Seaton resides in Denver, CO, where he has received some formal training at the Metropolitan State College of Denver, and is also the owner of Icon Industries -- an online art print store featuring work by some of today’s most talented lowbrow artists.

What am I doing here?  Simply looking to collaborate with models on some future artwork.  All models and/or photographers will be credited on my website, as well as on my profile here.
