Photographic portraiture  in the fine art tradition. I specialise in large format film and traditional processes to craft images that are ethereal and timeless. Currently focusing on large format film and wet plate image making, I do also print in pure Palladium and in the demanding Carbon Transfer process.

After some decades traveling the world I am now settling back to the UK, moving to the North East.

I am focusing my photograhic work on Portraiture in the fine art tradition.

I specialise in shooting Large Format film and Wet Plate collodion (a unique process dating from the very dawn of photography). These are likely to be very different ways of shooting and image making to those that you might ordinarily encounter. They are processes that are demanding for the model since they are slow and deliberate often requiring the model to hold a pose. However, the images are quite stunning and have always informed my digital work.

When I print my images I use a fusion of modern digital processes to generate a suitable negative and then handprint images either in Palladium or the rather demanding Carbon Transfer process, both from the early days of photography and both seeing a slight revival of late for the beauty of the images that are produced.

I am currently setting up a small home studio for the film based images, but it is likely that the Wet Plate images would be shot outdoors on location, since it is a very insensitive process requiring a lot of light.

If you are a model then I work TF only (there is unlikely to be any money in these projects!) and you can expect to receive digitised version of the images as well as copies of the small size one off pieces.

If you are a photographer interested in these techniques and processes it may be possible to arrange a workshop day where you would work alongside me.
