About Me

F YOU WANT TO LEAVE A COMMENT OR MAKE A FRIEND REQUEST, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:

I am happy to add almost anybody to my list of friends, even people whose work I am not crazy about. Just know that therefore, being my "friend" doesn't mean much. As for me, I don't make friend requests - frankly, the whole "friend" thing seems sort of pointless to me. I also don't usually return tags - I welcome yours, but I'm not in the tit-for-tat business. I do leave tags, occasionally, though - there are some gorgeous people and pictures on this site, and I do want to acknowledge them.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN WORKING WITH ME, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:

I have enormous respect for my models and all the hard work they do to stay looking their best. And I am eternally grateful for the contribution they make to my art. So I want you to be very clear about my business arrangements with models; if you work with me, I want you to come away from the experience feeling that you got exactly what was promised in return for your time and talent.

1. I don't pay my models. I also don't give them copies of every picture I take. We review all the pictures on the computer during and after the shoot, but you do not get to keep them in their raw form. To me that would be like going to a restaurant and getting a meal of all the ingredients dumped on a plate - uncooked. What you do get is a monogrammed copy of every picture I finish in Photoshop - they usually look a lot different and a lot better than the original exposures. Check out my blog if you want to see just how much I manipulate pictures.

2. I spend a lot of time retouching and compositing pictures - anywhere from two to ten hours for each one. For that reason, I don't finish a lot of pictures from any given shoot - only the best ones. That might be just one or two; four at the very most. That means you might not get every picture you want - although I usually try to work it out so that we're all happy.

3. I'm slow. You're not going to get all your pictures the next day, or even the next week. It may take weeks, or more, to see any results. You're going to have to be patient. I do deliver, however - eventually.

4. I require all models to sign a model release. On VERY rare occasions, I might license a picture to Getty Images, in which case I give you an honorarium of 100 dollars. Other than that, you don't make any money from me. Almost all my pictures get published sooner or later, but I do not pay for any other publications - your picture might end up in a book ten years from now, and I'm not going to hunt you down after all that time. Besides, the money I make from publishing nude photographs is usually zero or close to it, so you're not getting ripped off. I also don't pay royalties for fine art print sales. If you knew all the time and work - and money - that goes into actually selling a print, and how few I sell, you'd understand why.

5. I shoot all my models nude, but I will agree not to publish any full frontal nude shots if you are concerned about it (I'll give you a legally binding, signed statement to that effect). But in general, if you are not comfortable being nude in front of a camera, I'm not the right photographer for you.

6. I have no problem with escorts, as long as they behave themselves and stay out of the way. FYI, I'm probably as old as your grandfather, I'm in a relationship, and I'm not going to try to grope you. I just want to take your picture.

7. I do have a problem with tan lines and body hair, except for pubic hair. Also, I'm not interested in photographing other peoples' artwork, so if you have tattoos that can't easily be retouched out, sorry, but I can't work with you.

Them's the rules. If you can live with them, great. If not, we're not right for each other.

This all sounds very demanding, I know. And I am very demanding. I'm also very picky about who I photograph, and I ask a lot from my models - and myself - when we're shooting. My sessions are easy-going and fun, however - we can play music, have a glass of wine, eat some organic something-or-other, hang out and tell war stories. I'm a nice guy, my models tend to be very enthusiastic about the results, and I often end up shooting the same people over and over again.

Right now I'm so backed up with unfinished work, I'm not going to be shooting anybody for a while, but if you're interested in working with me, it can't hurt to get in touch.

Thank you all for being out there; I couldn't do what I do without you.
