ARTIST STATEMENT

Tara Sharpe’s work complicates perceptions of beauty and myth. Layered and saturated jewel tone colors in varying opacities of oil paint are Sharpe’s preferred execution method. Shown as symbolic entities, these figures engage directly with the viewer or among themselves, creating a hypnotizing tension. Influenced by Post-Impressionism, Expressionism, Fauvism, Belle Epoque and Secessionism, Sharpe’s work seeks to add a new depiction of feminine beauty while transporting the viewer to another time and space.
