I've been into photography for quite some time, but only recently have I started photographing people and getting into the world of photography. So I know how it is just starting out.

I'd like to suggest going to Barnes and Noble or whatever book store you have around you and go through every book in the photography section. Start with portraiture and how to compose a great picture, then learn about lighting. Using natural light at first is easiest (especially when you don't have money for lighting) and can be very effective when used effectively.
