Email me - [email protected]

I'm a photographer that works in primarily in fine art, but also in editorial.
I primarily focus on portraiture.

I'm a graduate of the MFA Studio Art and the Computer program at the University of Central Florida. Currently, I work freelance as a photographer and artist, and I'm an instructor of photography and visual art  at the local universities and state colleges.

I look to collaborate with models for my conceptual series, and I seek opportunities to exhibit my work.

____Artist Statement____
The focus and inspiration of Patricia Lois Nuss' photographs is the role and affect various female idols have on the western society she lives and cooperates in. Female idols represented in religion, mythology and modern American pop media have become a primary interest to Nuss due to an alienated relationship with the mother figure in her own life as well as an over saturation of these idols in the media surrounding her. Models, and other women with the accepted systematic body type and facial features seem to have taken on a religious status in society.

The women I work with are professional or aspiring models who are asked to do the opposite of their profession by showing a private part of themselves. In the series Mo(u)rning, the women are woken at sunrise and photographed in their own slept-in nightwear. Vague memories of Nuss' own young mother in her nightgown crossed with the beauty of idols from popular magazines haunts this series. Each participating woman in the second series, the Madonnas, is asked by the artist to think of a range of personal but nonspecific moments from her life. The women are asked not to share their thoughts only the moment spent thinking with the artist and in consequence the viewer. The facial expressions associated with these thoughts take on a universal role.

A contrast embraces Nuss' work, as the supported model-like female idol praised in our culture is often damaging to the psyche of the everyday woman. Yet Nuss accepts that she does not live outside the media influence and even at times embraces it. Nuss repetitively and obsessively, attempts to create a woman who fits this idol typecast but who allows an intimacy to be achieved with the photographer as well as the viewer.
