About Me

Jack Gildroy

Recognized for his flair for fashion photography, Jack Gildroy has been taking

pictures since trying out his camera skills as a member of a camera club at

Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois.

Finding photography fascinating as a teenager, he continued

in the club through his four years in high school, developing

skill in the design and printing of emotion filled black and white images.

Planning to go into architecture, he began studies at the

YMCA Junior College in downtown Chicago. Unfortunately, he says

with a grin, he was side-tracked by an invitation from Uncle Sam

to serve in the army. With his strong photography background,

he became a combat photographer.

Following his two year stint which included a tour of duty in Viet Nam, he

pursued other venues.

He continued to work with film as a wedding photographer.

He continued serving his country, first for a year in the Illinois

Air National Guard as a still photographer specialist and then for 13 years in

the Naval Reserves as a Photographersmate, Petty Officer.

During those 14 years, he used his photographic abilities to make images of

everything from broken parts, to award ceremonies, to cruise books, to officer

and Senior Petty Officer portraits.

Eventually John chose to return to school and earn a degree in the field he came

to love, photography. He not only earned one degree, but two: the first was an

Associates of Applied Science, Photography Technology and the second an

Associates in Applied Science in Digital Imaging, both from College of DuPage in

Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

For the past three years he has worked with the College of DuPage Fashion Design

Department, photographing the shows that express the talents of new fashion

designers as they plan for future careers.

In addition, during the past two years, he has worked with Victor Miller,

photographing semi-annual fashion shows, which present Victor Miller’s newest

clothing lines, unveiled by models provided by Lillie’s Talent Agency, and new

talent designers.

Other projects include theater and sports photography for Moraine Valley

College, and taking modeling composites and portfolios for aspiring models and

actors.
