In general, I shoot two distinct styles: abstract figure and emotive portraits. Not to say that I can’t do a lot more, but these two subjects, outlined below, are the two primary styles I am currently pursuing.

On Portraiture
The real grit of life, of being a human, is so much more than a pretty smile on a sunny day. So when it comes to portraits, I want to capture a less-often seen emotion of some kind. Something that portrays a raw response to an emotional event. I aim to capture a less “pretty” side of humanity; an emotion that is often overlooked by photographers, yet is just as strong at connecting us as it is at tearing us apart. I want to capture your anger, your vulnerability, your sadness, and with every ounce of your intensity.

On Bodyscapes
The human body is, quite simply, amazing. In all its shapes and sizes, the human form can be so much more than what we typically see. Before we continue, let’s clear something up: This type of work is not boudoir, it’s not about flirting with the audience, or harnessing sex appeal. It is, as the definition implies, about building a landscape from the body. Landscape photography is about capturing the curves, the lines, the essence of the land. Bodyscape photography has the same goal, in simpler terms: to capture the natural beauty of the subject. When I’m shooting bodyscapes (or ‘abstract figure’ or ‘architectural nudes’ - depending on the day) I try to abstract the human body into unrecognizable shapes and lines when possible. I want to make the viewer stop and wonder "what [body part] is that?". I want to sculpt the light across the human form and carve out just enough of both to give the viewer something to wonder about. My hope is the viewer finds they now have more appreciation for a shoulder, an elbow, a collarbone, a calf muscle; because I believe they should.

In general, I want to work together with models to create something unique for them. I want to hear their input, their ideas, their goals and discover the results together. Like everything in life, honesty is the best policy. If a model proposes an idea to me I don't feel confident I can accomplish, I will tell them. If our visions of an idea don't align, it simply doesn't make sense to me to force it. No one will be happy and there's nothing exciting or wonderful about that.

I can work with just about anyone, but I do prefer to set up an in-person meeting if possible after exchanging some emails before we shoot to work out ideas so there's no time wasted on the actual set and to break that "new person" ice.

Just a few points of interest:
If we have a shoot scheduled and you have to cancel, please give me at least 24 hours notice by both email and a phone call, or as soon as you able.

I'm going to assume that all models will have an escort with them and they will be respectful of the shoot/studio.

I like to think of shoots as an opportunity to have a good time, enjoy the experience, and get some good pictures.  If it's not fun, what's the point, that attitude will translate into the images and it could ruin the entire set.
