Kinetic Pai (Pi) is the ongoing artistic endeavour of James Andrew Banks. I live in the city of Vancouver, in the province of British Columbia, Canada.
My father taught me photography when I was a child. Two years in the darkroom learning to process film and develop prints. When I was eight years old, I received my first camera, my father's Minolta SR-7, when he bought a new one for himself.
In this digital age, the old darkroom, enlarger, developing baths, and any sort of analogue equipment are long gone. I'm enjoying the current digital technology, and the expansive real time possibilities it creates.
My work with models, and beyond into street photography, is an exploration of the human psyche. How and what we feel and say, who are we, how we affect ourselves, each other, and the world we live in. The models that I have worked with in the past have always had as much to say and express as I have behind the camera. In that regard, each photo session has been an exploration and a collaboration that always leaves us with a captured moment of intrinsic magic. An instant in time that will never happen again.
The ability to observe these moments in our lives, and translate it all into visual media that transcends any spoken language, is neither a job, or a hobby. It is, for me, a lifelong vocation bordering on pure addiction.
The resources offered by "Model Mayhem" are an outstanding way to expand possibilities. The ability to see who is available for creative work, anywhere on the planet, right now.....is a powerful idea. One can plainly see that the collaborative variables can expand right off the scale.
Now, let's put some of those ideas to work and see what sort of new dialogue emerges.
