I'm Eli, a writer and photographer based in Tennessee and Arizona. I've spent almost twenty years writing, photographing and editing for a variety of publications, including WIred (writing, shooting), Bike magazine (writing) and National Geographic's Intelligent Travel (writing, shooting), among others. Easily recognized past commercial clients include Southwest Airlines, the City of San Francisco and publisher Prentice Hall.

Like many photographers starting out during the age of film, my gateway drug was the indomitable Pentax K-1000, given to me by my mom when I was 13. As my interest turned from hobby to professional and I began taking college classes in photography and photojournalism, the digital age supplanted film, and my tenure in the college newsroom coincided with their switch from film bodies and negative scanners to DSLRs. I've logged a ton of experience shooting, but very little of that has been posed portraiture. When I first began shooting in college, half my friends sported social media avatars shot by me. I enjoyed shooting portraits. My friends liked how I made them look. But my path through photography led elsewhere, and posed portraits became a rarity for me — a neglect I mean to change.

I've missed the feeling of making others feel happy seeing themselves, and I want that again. I have a whole bunch of ideas I'd like to try out, I just need a few creative partners with who are as enthusiastic about experimenting with creative expression as me.
