I am an freelance, Independent filmmaker with a degree in film and writing. When I’m not working on a book idea, I am either in front of or behind the camera. As a Sri Lankan woman, I believe I have a unique point of view that affects the way I portray myself for others. Asian women are constantly being subjected to the male gaze, while being told to value their modesty and purity at the same time. For example, I grew up being told by my parents to not show my body. Ever. At the same time, they’d show me Bollywood movies where the women would be belly dancing and showing their skin. It just doesn’t make sense, does it? Asian women are amongst the most sexually repressed women on earth, yet everything we do is solely for the viewing pleasure of other people. I want to break the barrier of Asian women being submissive and docile. I want us to be sexy for ourselves. I’m looking to meet people who share the same thoughts as me and would help me share my story.
