In retirement, I turned to photography to reawaken the visual skills that have lain dormant during a working life devoted to the verbal skills of writing, editing, speaking, or performing. With photography, I want to learn to see better: to understand the interplay between light and shadow; to see how shape, line, texture, and color create a composition; and to find ways to tell stories in pictures. Most of my work so far has featured landscapes, plants, old houses, animals, still life, inanimate objects. While I have worked with a few friends as models and produced some self-portraits, I want to expand that aspect of my portfolio.
