I began my photography career in 1971 processing and printing black and white film for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Yes, I'm an old guy with many years of experience. I lived through and photographed much of the social changes through the years. I made the transition to digital in 2000, opening my portrait studio in Hendersonville in 2002. I am now semi-retired after closing my professional studio in 2016, however I still have a small fully digital professional studio in my home in Hendersonville, NC.

For me, photographic image making is a conscious assembly of very fine details into a complete aesthetic statement. Influenced, no doubt, by the 1970's era modern social documentary photographers, I remain intrigued by the edgier aspects of people and places around me.

I work primarily in black & white, most often in thematic series which allows me to really explore a motif, although I usually work on several themes concurrently. The energy that develops between my model and myself have much more bearing on the final print than any technical tricks might.

In addition to my commissioned work, my past projects included Beard Proud Men from all walks of life in the North Carolina mountains and Body Art Orchestra which explored tattooed women with musical instruments. I am always looking for creative, self confident, artistic models to collaborate with on new projects.
