They say that the “work” of a good makeup artist shouldn’t be visible. That is, if you’re staring at a woman’s makeup, you’re not staring at her face. This is exactly my philosophy and approach when retouching photos. The steps I take when retouching a photo should never take away the photographer’s vision of his artwork. I am there to support not define or shape that vision. While Photoshop is critical in the process, it also needs to get out of the way and become innocuous.
