Background

Art (and photography in particular) has been a passion of mine for over two decades; however other commitments in life have meant that I have rarely been able to devote the time and attention to the subjects as much as I would have liked.

But it is a passion of mine which has endured. Despite many breaks (often for years at a time!) I have always been drawn back to photography and have always tried to learn, improve and remember all that I have forgotten! And I have always tried to keep my work varied and exciting.

Although originally from the United Kingdom I have just recently returned 'home' after spending most of my adult life living in mainland Europe and North America. I believe that my experience of other cultures is something that has helped me maintain my enthusiasm in trying to (but not always succeeding to!) create great pictures and I have been fortunate to travel to many great locations and to collaborate with many varied enthusiastic artists.

My photographic work over the years has been mainly focused (no pun intended!) around scenic and architectural work however I have often made a foray into the world of photographing people. As a lover of portraiture most of my work has centred in that area. I have some experience in the fashion/glamour fields and I have done a very limited number of artistic nude shoots for personal friends of mine.

When I have had the time and inspiration I have also created and shot a few short films some of which received positive reviews following screenings in local art cinemas. As I get back to being comfortable behind the camera again I will be considering a return to this genre too.


Shooting Guidelines

I truly love creating artistic and visually attractive images and I believe that creating such art can be difficult but at the same time great fun.

I have always believed that a truly great photo shoot needs thorough and proper planning. Although great images can be created spontaneously on the day I believe that the shoot as a whole needs to be organised and arranged properly so that all involved have a clear understanding of the aim and purpose of the session. For this reason it is extremely rare for me to attempt to arrange or to agree to a short-notice shoot

I enjoy collaborating with people who truly love the work and who have a real passion for the art. Although I always enter into a shoot with a clear idea of what I wish to achieve I also greatly appreciate suggestions and ideas from the people I work with.

I also believe that good prior communication is essential before a shoot. I work in a variety of genres from simple portraiture to artistic nude: Those areas of photography are quite descriptive in what they are and easily arranged. However many themes that lie between those (such as lingerie, glamour and implied nude) can be very much open to individual interpretation and therefore only a frank and thorough discussion on what exactly is expected from the model before the shoot begins can ensure that all parties are happy on the day.

I never have an issue with a model bringing an escort/chaperone to the shoot; if that makes the model feel more comfortable and at ease then that is great... I do not believe that a wary and/or uncomfortable model makes for a successful and enjoyable photo shoot.

It is no problem for me to sign a contract regarding future use of any images created but I request that this is also discussed thoroughly sometime before the shoot takes place.
