A native of the Washington, D.C. area, Short began his love of photography as a professional model and dancer. After a stint of time in New York City, pursuing his dream of modeling, Short received favorable marks from the icon Boss Models Inc model agency. Short took a different path, following his love of dance instead.

Short trained with faculty and artists of Dance Theatre of Harlem, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Lines Ballet, Washington Ballet, Maryland Youth Ballet, and the Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts. After completing his formative training, Short performed with Bolton/Smith, El Teatro De Danza Contemporanea El Salvador, and K2 dance companies.

While close to retiring from performing, Short had the privilege to meet Russian photographer Sergey Apasov. After modeling occasionally for Sergey, Short became his assistant on dance photo shoots for five years – further developing his initial love of movement, photography, and beauty.

Short holds a BFA in Theater from Howard University, and a MFA in Dance with coursework in graphic design, and film from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Short has taken workshops from notable photographers Lindsay Adler, Clay Patrick McBride, Rocco Ancora, and Aaron Nace.

Short’s photography work has been featured in Metro Weekly Magazine, the Washington Blade Newspaper, and the now-defunct Ngoma Reader Magazine (Online). He is the House Photographer for Dissonance Dance Theatre in Washington, DC.
