My name is Luigi T., born in 1979, and I am an amateur photographer specialized in portrait photography (based in Cagliari). I have had a passion for photography since before I was 10, maybe since I was 8 years old. I have always liked photography, perhaps most of all I liked the "magic" of capturing the moment.

In middle school my parents enrolled me in the extended time because – according to the program – I would have had the opportunity to attend the photography workshop. Punctually denied as I only saw that laboratory from the outside.

At the beginning I used an Agfamatic 508 with 120 roll, the small and rectangular roll. I still remember the cube-shaped disposable flash, 4 flashes and it was thrown away. I switched to 35mm and received as a gift for Confirmation (1992/1993) the first reflex with a 35-70mm lens and exposure meter. In 2003 I bought my first digital camera (if you can call it that), a compact from Kodak. In 2010 I bought my first DSLR, the Canon 550D, sold at the end of 2012 to finance the purchase (in 2013) of the current (2024) Canon 5D mark III.

In addition to portrait photography, I also made small experiences with other genres: still-life, macro, architectural, landscape. Studying the lights helped me a lot, as did architectural photography by avoiding (as far as possible) falling lines, or by trying to recover them in post-production.

In these years of photography, I can say that it's not easy to portray a person. Many times you get good posed shots, but it often happened that the most beautiful shots were the "stolen" ones, those in which the person portrayed was immersed in other thoughts.

Sure, capturing the moment isn't easy, but when you do, it is and will remain a noteworthy shot, beyond criticism.

Mi chiamo Luigi T., classe ’79, e sono un fotoamatore specializzato nella fotografia ritrattistica (con base a Cagliari). Alle scuole medie i miei genitori mi iscrissero al tempo prolungato perché – stando al programma – avrei avuto l’opportunità di frequentare il laboratorio di fotografia. Puntualmente smentito in quanto quel laboratorio lo vidi solo dall’esterno.

Agli inizi usavo una Agfamatic 508 con rullino 120, il rullino piccolo e rettangolare. Ancora mi ricordo il flash monouso a forma di cubo, 4 flashate e si buttava. Passai al 35mm e ricevetti come regalo per la Cresima (1992/1993) la prima reflex con ottica 35-70mm e esposimetro. Nel 2003 acquistai la mia prima fotocamera digitale (se così si può chiamare), una compatta della Kodak. Nel 2010 acquistai la mia prima reflex digitale, la Canon 550D, venduta alla fine del 2012 per finanziare l’acquisto (nel 2013) dell'attuale (2024) Canon 5D mark III.

Oltre alla fotografia ritrattistica ho anche fatto piccole esperienze con altri generi: still-life, macro, architettonica, paesaggistica. Lo studio delle luci mi ha aiutato parecchio, così come la fotografia architettonica evitando (per quanto possibile) le linee cadenti, oppure cercando di recuperarle in post-produzione.

In questi anni di fotografia, posso dire che non è facile ritrarre una persona. Molte volte si ottengono buoni scatti posati, ma sovente è capitato che gli scatti più belli fossero quelli “rubati”, quelli in cui la persona ritratta era immersa in altri pensieri.

Certo, catturare il momento non è facile, ma quando ci si riesce, è e rimarrà uno scatto degno di nota, al di sopra di ogni critica.
